Don't worry, it's free.
Edit:
Oh okay, I assumed it was free :frown:
Don't worry, it's free.
No it isn't
The first one was amazing as a mod but I would never consider paying for a remake of it, it's just like a video game version of a well written short story
I'd buy it, as long as it's something reasonable like 4.99$
It already looked amazing and I was a huge fan of the original.
People seem really upset at the remake creator right now. This commercial release does not mean good for the modding community. Sure there are a few commercial mods out there, but this is asking too much for some people. If only this was known for a long time ago.
Anyway, this is a dirty trick to be honest. If the release is going to be under 7 bucks then why not.
Still I do not like when Single Player mods go commercial
Anyway, for the pricing, this is what the developer has to say:

To Eggy and everyone concerned about the cost, without talking figures at this point, I can tell you it will be extremely affordable, and Im going to do everything I can to make sure what you get in return is worth every penny!
This is the culmination of two years of the most dedicated and creative work i’ve ever done, and im so happy to see it so warmly welcomed as an indie title. There will be lots more info to come, and im looking forward hearing more of your thoughts!
I'd rather see he spent time making something new instead.
Feels kinda useless to buy something that is prettier than the free version but still the same.
Kinda like buying DOTA 2
Eh, he put so much work into it so I think he deserves it.
He's seriously gonna sell this? Fuck off.
He deserves credit for it, more than just recognition if you ask me. I'll be buying it for sure. As long as it doesn't come with TF2 promo items it's okay by me.
But I don't wanna buy a remake of a free mod.
Oh well, I guess he did put 2 years of work into it, and it does look pretty damn good. If it's about $5, I'd buy it.
I was wondering if they were going to sell it, considering the amount of work that was put into it. I probably won't get it, considering watching a let's play of it on youtube will probably the equivalent of playing it.
He worked his ass off on this and made an absolutely incredible looking source mod. He deserves the money.
But he still better not be thinking of asking for more than $10 for it. I mean, isn't Dear Esther really short?

What tf2 promo items could they even work out of this? Hat of electrical and cellular diagrams?
but it was a shit mod
it could've been great but there were so many bugs, the environment was bland and poorly made, the whole thing felt like a weekend project
why would I buy it when it's a. bad b. a free mod
um this is a remake
The old one is free if you don't want to pay, I will probably get this if its well priced the work that has been put in deserves money

Good thing that's not what's being sold then
Turn every single good idea (mod or otherwise) into a commercial project. Fuck you.
Well I would think it would be better in UE3, as it looks better than Souce, imo. It can also achieve a much better feeling of "atmosphere".
um this is a remake
Heh, made me think of Call of Duty.

who was it that made that game where you're a grandma in a graveyard and the only difference between the free 'demo' and the $5 version is you can die at the end in the $5 version?
[del]was it telltale?[/del] it was tale of tales, do you expect a company like that to churn out a game of Half-Life quality?
I think this is being judged a little prematurely. I'm sure a majority of the problems with the first have been fixed, and he clearly said that the game has been expanded from the original. It isn't simply the same game remade. And I doubt it'll be more than $5, so why not? I'll certainly buy it. Despite the problems the original Dear Esther had, I thought it was a good experience. And I look forward to this one.

What are you going on about
how does that compare to this total remake

It was made back in 2005 man, you kids and your Source Engine 2007 updates and shit... Spoiled bastards.
What tf2 promo items could they even work out of this? Hat of electrical and cellular diagrams?
There couldn't possibly be any type of promo items for this game, which is why I said that.
What tf2 promo items could they even work out of this? Hat of electrical and cellular diagrams?
I can guarantee you that Valve will find a way.
I knew those caves looked too good to be released just free.

you wouldn't expect mcdonald's to suddenly be a super healthy place to eat
I can't phrase it without an analogy
