From Wikipedia:
Each show began with Ross standing with a blank canvas in front of a black background. In under thirty minutes, Ross would turn the blank canvas into an imaginary landscape, using the wet-on-wet oil painting technique, in which the painter continues adding paint on top of still wet paint rather than waiting a lengthy amount of time to allow each layer of paint to dry. Combining this method with the use of two inch and other types of brushes as well as painting knives allowed Ross to paint trees, water, clouds and mountains in a matter of seconds. Each painting would start with simple strokes that appeared to be nothing more than colored smudges. As he added more and more strokes, the blotches transformed into intricate landscapes. The paintings featured colors like titanium white, phthalo green (a color used often, but in small quantities), phthalo blue, prussian blue, midnight black, dark sienna, Van Dyke brown, alizarin crimson, sap green, cadmium yellow (or "cad yellow" for short), yellow ochre, Indian yellow, and bright red. (On occasion, he used burnt umber and permanent red.) As he painted, he instructed viewers regarding the techniques he was using and added his trademark soothing comments describing the "happy little clouds" and "happy little trees" that he was creating with his brush. He would also mention snippets of his own life, including his military career and the time he spent in Alaska, family anecdotes, and his affection for small animals, which he raised and set free. The show would occasionally feature video of Ross with a baby squirrel or deer. He became known for his soothing tone and reassuring comments; "We don't make mistakes, we just have happy accidents." Each program was shot in real time with two cameras: a medium shot of Ross and his canvas, and a close-up shot of the canvas or palette.
Unfortunately, the show ended in 1994. Bob Ross died at the age of 52 in 1995.

"We don't make mistakes. We just have happy accidents."
I used to watch this show every sunday afternoon. His voice is so soothing. Combined with the awesome landscapes he paints, it just brings peace to your mind.
Bob Boss.
This show cured my cancer
I read that whole thing in his voice :psyduck:
Bob Ross could calm a raging Mongolian.
Died at the age of 52. God damn what a loss.
i watched so much bob ross, i don't paint or anything.
it just calms me, amazing man that died way too young.
does anyone notice good famous people usually die early
even though i never saw his show, maybe a few clips, i could tell he was a awesome dude.
I loved watching this show, just to see how easy had made it look.
Saw an image one with Bob Ross said something like:
"Gotta have opposites, dark and light. Light and dark in painting. It's like in life. Gotta have sadness once in a while so you know when the good times come.
I'm waiting on the good times now."
I have no idea whether he said that or not however.
i remember him saying that.

I have this sticker on my car. Bob Ross is the man.
Well the good thing is he is remembered. And that's all that matters.
Just wanna curl up in his afro and watch him paint forever.

That would make a wonderful comic.
Bob Ross is a wizard.
Lots of artists hated Bob Ross because he was not "elite" enough. He didn't drown his paintings in symbolism, and he only ever painted imaginary landscapes, which apparently was a bad thing. I heard he got boo'ed away from quite a few conferences by people who refused to consider him an artist and insisted he was just an amateur.
These days, the art world is overpopulated with stuck up, french beret wearing assholes, who paint pictures that symbolize their abusive father's raging cock up their asses when they were a child. Please visit my gallery. Here's a picture of an apple with a vagina, symbolizing my troubled youth.
Ross' painting method has been criticized as being a set of techniques that are too simplistic, without artistic merit.
Are you fucking kidding me? People always find something to baww about.

they are a bit simple compared to the masters of oil painting and so on, but i think the idea was to help the average american learn a bit about painting rather than advance the arts by teaching everyone how to make masterpieces.
His voice is so soothing.
I watched him paint once when I was on vacation in Florida, it's so relaxing
That man was a goddamn boss
