the stupidity fucking BURNS
Okay, well. That PSA just instructed children to commit several serious criminal offenses.
Good job.
Lock up your shit.
Someone linked this to me yesterday, and the whole time I was watching it I hear "BWOOSH BOOM BOOM POW POW POW" coming from my backyard as my dad and his friends are firing off an M4 and a 12 Gage. Just thought it was ironic.
Guns are such a normal part of my life, I don't understand why people are so terrified of them. Fear the user, not the tool.
I don't understand why it is so hard for parents to lock their guns away when they have kids.
Wow was that a pellet gun?
Yeah, because this was probably made by people who've never held a firearm in their lives.
What the hell?
Literally my only thought
Good on that kid saving his family. That gun might have snapped one day and killed everyone.

You shouldn't need to. Don't make guns some taboo thing and kids won't play with them. They're tools, sometimes you need to use them, and if your kid understands that he's not going to fuck with your guns.
Think back to when you were a kid, how often did you play with a screwdriver? Never, because you knew what it was and what it did. You understood how it was operated, and in what situations it was appropriate to use. I had that same experience with firearms, I've been using firearms in a safe manner since I was strong enough to pick one up, and because of that I was never tempted to play with them.
Locking away your guns is as good as not owning guns, no home invader is going to wait for you to get into your safe and grab your own weapons to tie you up and hurt or kill you and your family.
Is it really suggesting you should steal a firearm from your parents because you are uncomfortable with it lol
like this if youve ever lost a best friend in your childhood/teens to an accidental pellet to the face :-(
I heard many of my comrades yell "hit!" that fateful day
I still remember it vividly

You are talking like five people break into your house everyday.

It only takes once.
In america, if you plan on getting kids and you like guns
lock up your fucking guns.

Pretty sure most home intruders just want to take your TV and not your life. Though if you start waving a gun around they might open fire on you.

yea, steal your dads gun, take it to school, then brandish it in front of your teacher.
Can't wait to see the news about American kids getting expelled over doing this.

If you have really young kids(less than 8 at least), they usually won't understand even if you explain it to them. As for the problem of home defense, get a wall rack to put your gun on and put it out of reach of kids. Better than fumbling with a safe or lockbox in the middle of the night while some dickhead tries to make off with your tv, and safer than leaving it in the corner.
If they want to stop gun violence maybe the best idea isn't to show kids it's okay to bring fucking guns to school.
"I don't feel safe with it in my house"
Well that's because you're a dingus and you don't know how to properly use it and keep it in a safe place, Jimmy.
And why did you bring it to SCHOOL ye' dickhead? It ain't even show and tell day, if that was what you were on about...
This ad will SURELY stop gun violence!
Man, I can't even imagine having guns being so normal to you guys. To me, guns are this last resort that only gets used if there's absolutely no alternative. Our police don't use guns unless it's a really really really important or dangerous situation. Even during the London Riots, they were only using rubber pellet guns and tear gas grenade launchers, and those were considered extremely contraversial. I know the Queen's guard have guns, and occasionally you'll see a police officer armed with an assault rifle in London but that's about it.
Now longswords on the other hand are fair game and we use them all the time...

Also, is it true that you guys have a national flag in every classroom?
If you take a self defense class, this is what you're trained to do, it was certainly what I was trained to do when I took mine and it doesn't apply to just guns but ANY weapon. The idea is when you carry a weapon the US, you do everything you can to avoid a fight and you absolutely do not start a fight while armed. If you can escape without using a weapon, you do so. If your attacker flees, you let him go and you don't go play vigilante and chase down criminals, though it's okay to intervene if you see someone being attacked.
Believe it or not, casually drawing a weapon on someone as a threat is considered assault with a deadly weapon, you don't even have to point it at anyone, it just has to be visible. Even more bizarre, if you have a license for a concealed weapon, if you accidentally reveal the weapon (Say you're wearing a coat and reach up to a high shelf and your handgun becomes visible on your belt for a moment), if someone calls the cops as a result (For example, a surprising number of people don't know it's legal to carry a weapon where I live), not only do the cops HAVE to respond because the incident involves a weapon, you can be charged with assault just because someone saw a holstered weapon hidden under your clothing and felt threatened. Though if you're well behaved the responding officer may just let you off with a warning not to let it happen again.
Basically the only time you ever draw a weapon in the US is when you actually intend to use it, any other time is going to land you in trouble very quickly.
And yeah, you see the US flag everywhere, class often started with the pledge of allegiance when I was in school.

I did, I knew damn well the guns were not to be touched so I never did until my Dad asked if I'd like to learn to shoot. If you've got a kid who can not follow the rules then yeah, but chances are just as good the parents are worthless so it's a bit of a vicious cycle there.

Guns here are mainly for sport and recreation rather than self-defense. When i bought my first gun(.22lr rifle), i wasn't thinking about the bad guys i'd defend myself from, i was thinking about all the bottles and cans i'd be shooting, as well as the tasty rabbits i can get during hunting season. Anecdotal yes, but it's like that for everyone else i know. The self-defense thing is mostly considered in really shitty neighborhoods and to people who've had people break into their homes already.
Not sure about every school, but where i went, yes there was a flag in every classroom. It was mainly for the pledge of allegiance that is customary in school before class started. Gotta have a flag to face in order to do it properly.

Not properly storing your firearms is a really stupid thing to advocate to satisfy your paranoia. I have always locked away my firearms because while I understand they are tools they are 1000x more dangerous than a screwdriver and when not in use should be kept safe and away from everyone else. Many deaths could have been prevented with proper firearm storage.
I urge that you keep your stuff locked up and if you're that paranoid with someone breaking in and trying to kill you then you should do a few practice drills with unlocking whatever you'll use to store your firearms until you get it down to a few seconds.
"Oh let me just put this dangerous as fuck weapon inside the same drawer as my underwear, NO ONE will find it here!" No seriously, what dumb cunt hides a gun like that?
Is it really suggesting you should steal a firearm from your parents because you are uncomfortable with it lol
Yes! And bring it to school!
This can't possibly go wrong.

Imagine what would happen if a kid gets killed by police because they brought a gun to school
And the reasoning is that they used this PSA.
What I expected: A "lock up your guns" advert
What I got: Gun smuggling.

you know what else can hurt your family? letting small children near your guns before they're physically capable of understanding the problem with playing with them. doesn't help if their dad is also constantly paranoid of random home invasions, to the point of basically winging it with his children's upbringing and possibly lives just in case someone comes for his TV and/or anime figurines
[editline]23rd December[/editline]
but i can totally see where you're coming from because it always works out so well when people leave guns lying around next to their kids and just hope that they won't play with them because kids are always so rational and trustworthy. no child endangerment here just the way my ol pap brought me up

lock away your guns like you lock away the sweet flavor of kinder surprise chocolate from children's taste buds
what a goofy country
I don't understand the rampant "No I won't lock up my guns" argument.
Having one unlocked and in a safe hiding place for home defense is okay, but everything else should be locked away in a safe.
Not just for children reasons, but if a dude who breaks into your house and sees a fuckton of guns lying around, well that's gonna be a tasty couple thousand dollars that he could make.
