The chasm in public spending between Scotland and England has widened further, according to Treasury figures showing the gap is now nearly 20 per cent.[/h] The average Scot now enjoys £1,623 more in state spending than their neighbours south of the Border, up from £1,600 last year. North Sea oil and gas means that Scotland also contributes more per head in taxation than the UK average, but revenues have dropped off recently and are projected to continue falling.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/10465138/Chasm-between-English-and-Scottish-spending-widens.html
I didn't see the spending part so i read this as a deep hole in the ground was dividing them apart physically. Would have been more interesting.

just finished watching top gear, I really thought it was clarkson and may holding those flags based on the silhouettes
So you show a British flag to represent England?
So you show a British flag to represent England?
No its representing Scotland in and out of the union.
Although if you take away the North Sea profits, Scotland would be doomed. Independence will do them no favours in the long term.
That Union Jack's the wrong way round.
That Union Jack's the wrong way round.
How? It's a symmetrical flag?
How? It's a symmetrical flag?
No it isn't, note the position of the smaller red stripes in the saltire. [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/ae/Flag_of_the_United_Kingdom.svg/800px-Flag_of_the_United_Kingdom.svg.png[/t]
I highly suggest people do their own research on an issue like this and don't just believe the first thing they read in the paper. These figures change all the time and many don't take into account vital information as it alters the findings of their reports, and thus may not look favorable for those that commissioned it. Both pro Scotland and anti Scotland. Its never as black and white as the papers make it seem.
So you show a British flag to represent England?
Well, for most of history Britain has been another word for England and her vassals. British identity is really a new thing -- probably to promote unionism.
Same with Scottish. The native Scottish language is English in fact.
i thought it was gaelic
i thought it was gaelic
The lowland Scots (who make up the vast majority of the population) have been speaking English for the best part of a thousand years.
The lowland Scots (who make up the vast majority of the population) have been speaking English for the best part of a thousand years.
They actually liked the English more than their highlander brothers.
They should have chosen the actual English flag instead of British flag, that's one of my pet peeves.
Who actually cares about the modern language and shit? It has zero bearing on the coming decisions.
Who actually cares about the modern language and shit? What exactly is there to separate us from the south and why would it be beneficial for us to leave? We're just pretty much the Northern British.

God, now my OCD wants to make it all straight, fuck

The only thing that should be worth considering is if someone can actually come up with a half decent plan of action for us if we decide independence is what we want as a nation because if we don't do shit right and if we do it literally to spite a bunch of Asshat union "extremists" then we're realy just throwing the baby out with the bath water.
What exactly is there to separate us from the south and why would it be beneficial for us to leave? That's really all there is to it from my understanding, Scotland can't sustain its self at the same standard of living it currently has, people would be worse off and it wouldn't get better.

Particularly when they, while not compromising on sovereignty, enter into political unions. See: The EU. You get all the benefits of people having a country they can call their own, while at the same time having governments not only for the people, but for THEIR people. On the other hand, you get the benefits that come with giant nation-states. It's sort of like what the Americans dream about when they talk about "States' Rights." I think the United Kingdom can evolve while preserving a British union. However, I do fear that England has the power to diplomatically and economically bully its neighbours. It's not an easy solution here.
i thought it was gaelic
Gaelic is the language brought over by the Irish, The Picts who are now Scots are bastard children of the Irish colonizers.
