Current title is now misleading. E-Verify system has difficulty spotting illegal workers who use fake identities
WASHINGTON (AP) - The system Congress and the Obama administration want employers to use to help curb illegal immigration is failing to catch more than half of the unauthorized workers it checks, a research company has found. The online tool E-Verify, now used voluntarily by employers, wrongly clears illegal workers about 54 percent of the time, according to Westat, a research company that evaluated the system for the Homeland Security Department. E-Verify missed so many illegal workers mainly because it can't detect identity fraud, Westat said. "Clearly it means it's not doing its No. 1 job well enough," said Marc Rosenblum, a researcher at the Migration Policy Institute, a nonpartisan Washington think tank. E-Verify allows employers to run a worker's information against Department of Homeland Security and Social Security databases to check whether the person is permitted to work in the U.S. The Obama administration has made cracking down on employers who hire people here illegally a central part of its immigration enforcement policy, and there are expectations that some Republicans in Congress will try in coming weeks to make E-Verify mandatory.
http://www.breitbart.com/print.php?id=D9E3AC9G0&show_article=1 http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=cp_hm6affs2612&show_article=1 Update!
E-Verify correctly identified legal workers 99 per cent of the time, Westat said. However, previous studies have not quantified how many immigrants were fooling the E-Verify system. Much of the criticism of E-Verify has focused on whether U.S. citizens and legal immigrants with permission to work were falsely flagged as illegal workers.
It's obviously Obama's fault
inb4 Obama comments.
It's obviously Obama's fault
It's the employers fault really, they have extremely cheap labor so they don't want to lose that.
It's the employers fault really, they have extremely cheap labor so they don't want to lose that.
And it is the governments fault for not getting on these employers asses and getting shit done right.
obamma sfault
The other way to look at it is this tool catches 50% of illegals checked with it. Better than nothing. Of course, that's assuming employers even bother to use it, a number of industries in the US rely very heavily on slav--er, excuse me, immigrant labor.
looks like an epic fail
looks like an epic fail
Get out.

Man I really do love it when people argue about politics, there are always 2 sides of a political argument, one side that actually knows shit, and the other side that doesn't know shit. One of life's great events.
It's voluntary, why would any employers even use it? If they can pay illegals almost nothing to do a ton of work, why would they give that up?
people all complain how this isn't obama's fault but when bush was in office everyone still placed the blame on him.
You said epic fail, you are 13
epic fail
inb4 Obama comments.
Since that was very much a ninja post, I won't rate you clock.
Might be a silly question, But if it isn't working properly, how do they know they missed half of them? Seems a bit strange to me. Even with fraud.
That concerns me too.
Of course, that's assuming employers even bother to use it, a number of industries in the US rely very heavily on slav--er, excuse me, immigrant labor.
The other way to look at is these employers pay illegals more than what they would receive in their home countries. It's hard work, but it's better than nothing.
