• Republican NC state legislator: Abraham Lincoln was a ‘tyrant’ like Hitler for ending slavery
A North Carolina Republican state representative said in a Facebook post that former President Abraham Lincoln was a “tyrant” as bad as German dictator Adolf Hitler. The Raleigh News and Observer said Wednesday that Concord Republican Rep. Larry Pittman was responding to marriage equality supporters on social media after he introduced a bill to the state House urging the state the defy the U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage for all 50 states.
http://www.rawstory.com/2017/04/republican-nc-state-legislator-abraham-lincoln-was-a-tyrant-like-hitler-for-ending-slavery/ How fucking stupid does a man have to be
How the fuck are these people elected?! Seriously fucking how
But I thought they were the Party of Lincoln :vs:
It's like i'm watching a competition where the politicians are trying to be more retarded than the last one.
somewhere, sean spicer is relieved at not being the biggest idiot of the week
I swear, the recent Republican Party has killed the good name of the original Republican Party. Jesus Christ, they need a reform
A commenter told Pittman that the highest court in the land had decided the question and urged him to “get over it.” Pittman responded, “And if Hitler had won, should the world just get over it? Lincoln was the same sort if tyrant, and personally responsible for the deaths of over 800,000 Americans in a war that was unnecessary and unconstitutional.”
yknow, all ya had to do was just stop typing after the first sentence dude
How the fuck are these people elected?! Seriously fucking how
It's North Carolina, I don't doubt a substantial portion of his voters believe the same.
Republicans never cease to amaze me
“And if Hitler had won, should the world just get over it? Lincoln was the same sort if tyrant, and personally responsible for the deaths of over 800,000 Americans in a war that was unnecessary and unconstitutional.”
Next level shit right here. This example destroys his very own logic anyways. He defends rising up against authority to oppose an 'abhorrent' practice, yet appeals to constitutional authority in opposition to someone ending an abhorrent practice. An actually abhorrent practice, not letting people marry the ones they love. By his logic, Lincoln shouldve been completely in the right. But he doesn't see it this way. Probably because he'd like to see black people in chains again. I honestly can't think of any other basis for such an idiotic thought process. This man is in our government, and that's disgusting. Get him the fuck out. He's obviously not competent enough to be trusted with anything other than flipping burgers or stocking store shelves anyways if he said something like this. A competent racist would try to keep it a secret, this man is a drooling senile moron.
Is Republican Party hosting a contest on who will say the most retarded shit this week? If so, boy is this guy a strong contender.
seems like the kind of guy who would say the confederate flag represents states rights
Is Republican Party hosting a contest on who will say the most retarded shit this week? If so, boy is this guy a strong contender.
It's the Overton window effect coming into full swing. People get more bold regarding their political views when "their side" is in power and driving the conversation. It took nearly eight years of Obama for the dumbest of the dumbshits on the left to come out of the woodwork and start arguing shit like "you're a mysoginist if you're not a supporter of communism" on reddit. We're only a few months into Trump's term, the genie is coming out of the bottle and- SURPRISE! He's bald and there's a swastika tattooed on his forehead! Even more troubling is that this isn't idiotic teenagers on Tumblr or histrionic college professors with a chip on their shoulder- it's honest to god government officials. Before this came out, this man has probably been shaping policy in this country for decades, with the idea of Lincoln being a tyrant in his head. What kind of ideals do you presume he worked into the system? This is the Republican party. There are almost certainly others too- They're just not as stupid as he is.
Hate to be that guy, but you've taken his post way, way out of context. He said the civil war was unnecessary and killed 800,000 people. I think his statement that Abe Lincoln is comparable to Hitler is hyperbolic, but the statement that the civil war might have been avoided is not really akin to "i fucking love slavery"

It would be like if the blue states revolted against Trump and split from the union because he got his victory primarily from rural areas and the rust belt.
to be fair lincoln did some tyrannical things like suspending habeas corpus nowhere hitler level though
vote this guy out of office i mean, how stupid do you have to be to say shit like this about one of the most influential presidents in history, and, you know, the one that really shed light onto the republican party? the one he's a part of? i mean, there are things you can disagree with regarding lincoln but calling him worse than hitler is just shitty tbh
to be fair lincoln did some tyrannical things like suspending habeas corpus nowhere hitler level though
Which is not good, but still happened after the civil war started and seems to have been applied in very specific circumstances directly related to the war:
John Merryman, a state legislator from Maryland, is arrested for attempting to hinder Union troops from moving from Baltimore to Washington during the Civil War and is held at Fort McHenry by Union military officials. His attorney immediately sought a writ of habeas corpus so that a federal court could examine the charges. However, President Abraham Lincoln decided to suspend the right of habeas corpus, and the general in command of Fort McHenry refused to turn Merryman over to the authorities.
This all still shoots the good legislator's argument in the foot because it's the south that decided to go to war in the first place. Just think, if Lincoln were simply elected and everything just kept on keepin' on, it would've probably taken longer for slavery to be abolished in the United States if Lincoln's rhetoric of simply keeping slavery out of new states is to be believed, and when it did come around it probably would've been a gradual process!
to be fair lincoln did some tyrannical things like suspending habeas corpus nowhere hitler level though
I imagine that Lincoln was going to have some opinions from his time, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't anywhere near gassing the Jews level of doucebag.
It's funny that this fuckball thinks that Lincoln violated the constitution by trying, and succeeding, in preventing the country from tearing itself apart permanently, yet the very action of seceding is and was then illegal as fuck and tantamount to treason. They even tried to tolerate it for a while in hopes that they'd give up and rejoin the country, but shit escalated into a war and it was sorta just dropped into Lincoln's lap right as it started. He needs a history lesson, most preferably the type that involves him removed from office and moved into a cardboard box behind the local library for the rest of his life.
What's funny is Lincoln rose the republican party power to fight the dems who were pushing for slavery. :v:
Hitler at this point is basically a buzzword for talking shit about a political candidate you don't like.

I feel like politicians are playing that game where each player has to say penis louder than the last until someone says something about it. Except they all suffer from a terminal case of foot in mouth syndrome.
What's funny is Lincoln rose the republican party power to fight the dems who were pushing for slavery. :v:
Is that the most important thing to you, in this debacle? That the democratic party used to be the party of the South?
Is that the most important thing to you, in this debacle? That the democratic party used to be the party of the South?
I think it's just that he finds it ironic that a member of the 'Party of Lincoln' is berating Lincoln's legacy.
Now that they won the House and Senate, these Republicans are trying to be as edgy as Trump.
We've entered a dimension where Hitler was a good guy.
We've entered a dimension where Hitler was a good guy.
When you're courting those who are infatuated with him and his failed ventures, yet still attempt to court those who are on the opposite side of the aisle, you end up tearing yourself apart in the public eye.
Hey cletus here, the confederate states of America had EVERY right to secede, but fuck stick FEDERALISTS just went and stomped it all up ya hear? now I aint sayin that slavery was a good thing, but the union was oversteppin its boundaries in the civil war. I remember the day those imperialist fuckers stormed into my house and shot my cat. I didn't even own any slaves, like what the fuck right? Besides, if the south had won slavery would have been eliminated anyway. Sir Robert E Lee (God rest his soul) would have been considered a hero in the confederacy, and he was against slavery, so that would have at least influenced the confederate legislature toward abolition. In conclusion, fuck Lincoln, fuck you union federalist boot lickers, and the south shall rise again. God bless ya'll, and I'm out.
