Wow only months after its already been hacked and had better things done with it than on the 360, good job MS.
They really should've done this straight from the start. Now it just looks like they are trying to show-up the hack-job kinect software that's already on PC.
Wow only months after its already been hacked and had better things done with it than on the 360, good job MS.
I have this feeling it will ONLY work in windows and maybe it will only work for the "pc version" they're going to sell in the stores in the near future
They probably hold it back for so long to make sure that it works. They wouldn't want to release some crappy buggy stuff that doesn't work most of the time.

I bet they're only doing this because of what awesome things the community is doing with the Kinect, They've seen the true value of the kinect and actually want to support the community.
More like they want to milk the fuck out of everyone.
Yeah guaranteed they're more concerned with being responsible for community creations than actually helping any of these people. The Kinect is a fucking awesome piece of hardware but it seems like 99% of tthe innovative stuff is being done by hackers. Honestly I think Microsoft would have had an easier time just creating the thing as a stand-alone piece of hardware that had PC and 360 compatibility and letting the community and 3rd-party developers decide what to do with it. You know, instead of just making it a clumsy grab at the casual market copycatting the Wii so hard that no one would have batted an eye if Reggie had presented the project.
The thing I am most excited about is 3D gaming without glasses using the Kinect sensor. It's already somewhat possible with normal webcams though somewhat flawed. With Kinect's abilities for skeletal and (soon to be) facial recognition, it'll be cake. All you have to do is track the position of the head relative to the monitor or "sensor" and you can fake the 3D depth effect by making it so what you see in your monitor is relative to your head poisiton. Only problem is that the Kinect Sensor needs about 4-6 feet infront of it to really "work" as far as full body motion goes, so I wonder if the same limitation would be required for "webcam" purposes. And obviously the 3D effect probably won't be as "eye popping" as it would be for legit 3D monitors, but the difference is that it costs you $150 to do (with plenty of other features as well) while a 3D monitor set up is $500+ (plus you have to wear those goofy glasses). The other problem is support. If it's as simple as hacking into games that support current 3D efforts then it'll be easier, but if it needs it's own seperate drivers per game then things won't be as well. Of course the best solution to glasses-less 3D is what Nintendo is doing, but that's absurdly exspensive to produce in a larger "monitor" format (one of the reasons why the 3DS is $300). The 3DS uses a special kind of Liquid Crystal that is able to create the illusion of depth on the fly, without the use of glasses. Not cheap to produce though.
Let the money milking begin
