I don't even know what the hell the Pokemon Company is doing with the dub anymore. On one hand 4kids is legendarily infamous for their rewrites and controversial handling of the series, but the other hand there was a hell of a lot of style and charm. They knew how to sell Pokemon to kids, and make it damn well memorable. Incidentally, around the time the Pokemon Company took over all rights for the series in the west, I imagine a lot of fans were starting to go through burnout like I did and the diminishing quality of the anime only accelerated that.

More on-topic, i'm surprised this guy still has his voice. It's still got that distinct tone to it that he did 20+ years ago.

he's a decent singer. he's worked with a bunch of big artists as backup vocals for live performances, worked with michael jackson, meatloaf, scorpions, foreigner and more.

If you listen very carefully at 0:15 in the second video, you can hear just how heavy they went on the pitch adjustment / auto-tune. Listen to "my" in "my real test." Not that it makes it bad or anything, but it's safe to say he probably isn't perfect at singing it anymore.

Why did the Pokemon TV Show ever change their theme song from this one? Did 4Kids keep the rights to it when they stopped dubbing this show? It's probably the best thing 4Kids ever made.

I dunno the latter, but with each new generation Japan was changing their openings, and new Pokemon had to be advertised. It makes sense to switch it up, and to be honest the Johto theme is a lot more catchy for me.
