This is a 10 Minute Experimental Short with no direct character dialog, but a voice over from the deceased main character.
Originally I planned on a full script with dialog, but due to the stipulations of a film contest, i had to switch things up haha.
This film won 1st place and 10,000 and I am very thankful for all those involved.
I wish i could have had more then 5 days to throw this together, but thats what happens i guess haha.
Some of the film is from older projects of mine, but it all blends together nicely if i don't say so myself.
enjoy
WATCH IN HD for the love of god haha

That was awesome! It was really well made.

why thank you sir :)
If that's your voice, I like your voice. I wish I had people willing to actually try and act in something like this.

haha thanks. It takes a a lot of convincing and knowing the right people who know people to get people who do want to act and don't look forced in a way.
There are 8 Hahas in this thread.
Short was very well done. A few parts felt a bit drawn out because of the lack of dialog, but overall seemed very professional. Framerate is a bit slow, however.
Camera shakes an awful lot.

Framerate issues would be due to re-rendering 24fps videos over a 23.978fps final cut. some even 2 times. So it was thrown together at times with different defintions as well, but there wasnt too much i could do about it at times.

Yeah, not to happy with that, my tripod was out of action and steady cam on my camera isnt too great. but the slow shakes at times was purposeful.
Very well done, but there are a couple things that I thought seemed a little unsettling.
The shaky cam - if your tripod was out of action, you should have attempted to find something to keep it still, because for a lot of the film it was somewhat jarring.
The overexposure - the light on the character's faces, particularly near the end, was blown out. It appeared to me as if they had an incredibly pale face; something to keep note of, but I'm not sure what can be done about this.
The voiceover - This was actually fairly decent and it reminded me of Primer. However, a couple times throughout the film, you could be heard to come too close to the mic, giving some of the endings of the voice overs a certain 'pout' to them.
[sp]The gunfight at the end - it was quite abrupt and unsettling; the music stopped and a shot was fired. The transition wasn't too smooth, and it felt as if the link between the scenes suddenly broke down.[/sp]
Apart from that, the majority of the film was fairly swell; and covered some interesting topics. Congratulations on winning the contest.

thanks for the comment, the film was intentionally overexposed near the end to make it seem more washed out and gritty. The line before the last action of the film is meant to prelude the action with an ironic statement of the emotional and physical harm to befall on the characters. Thus, the breakdown in the groove of the film and the abruptness of the violence. That was my intention in a way. But i do agree it could have been accomplished in a better way.
I think voiceover is awful. It feels so cheesy.
It tries too hard to look artistic by having b&w and filter rape.

so b&w and lens filters+ contrast changes equals trying to hard. good to know. :P

It does. It served no purpose, neither did it look any good. If you wanted b&w, why not make entire movie b&w?

The use of black and white was to differentiate the time differences between the present, past and reviewable past. The reviewable past, which put the entire film in motion was in black and white. The past was color filtered changed based off mood. And the Present was left stock with slight red midtones and a drop in the levels.
So it did serve a purpose. Maybe not to you liking but to mine haha.
If you don't think it looked good, ill gladly hand over the unedited film and let you make your cut :)
You can pull off things like that if they're more subtle. For instance, vignetting has its place in photography, and that place isn't to be overdone. It's place is to be a subtle addition. If you had very light changes in tone it would look better overall. It also helps to have the real lighting done to fit a mood. Real light always looks better.
Yeah it was pretty good haha
hahahaha
hahahahahahaha
There were so many good and bad things about this movie. I definitely saw the effort, but there were a few small things I'd like to pick out.
I usually LOVE shaky cam, but only when it's used to good effect. This movie, although the camera wasn't bad quality, had an annoying jitter to it even in non-action settings. I would suggest either getting a tripod or steady cam.
Also, I personally would have preferred you used entirely pistols. Although it is rather badass having an M4 to kill someone with, they just don't look good for the scale that this video is on. It would make more sense to use a pistol, as they're concealable and much more advantageous to assassinate someone with.
What made this stand out the most to me was the narration. The voice was fit for stuff like that, it sounded very good, and something you would hear on a regular Hollywood movie.
Great work man, keep it up. And get rid of that camera jitter, it's only good if it's intentional!
I know it was said previously but that shaky cam was unbearable.
What was the font used in the beginning of the movie? I love it.
@ 8:37 the guy getting shot gives the exact seem cry of pain twice.
The sniper rifle was a bit much...

It was good btw.

He wasn't. He was being honest without beating around. It's good crit. He wasn't being mean, and I doubt he had any kind of emotion injected into that statement.
I really liked this little film overall, Kinda bugged me that the voiceovers were fuzzy, then it would cut to silence, but other than that i liked it. Good acting too
