Thailand's political crisis has become increasingly violent since mass protests began in November. On Sunday, an apparent grenade blast near an anti-government protest site killed a woman and a four-year-old boy. Doctors said on Monday that the little boy's sister died later of brain injuries. Twenty-two people were hurt in Sunday's blast, including a nine-year-old boy who is in intensive care. Sunday's attack came hours after gunmen opened fire on an anti-government rally in eastern Thailand, killing a five-year-old girl. Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has condemned the attacks, describing them as "terrorist acts for political gain". UN Secretary Ban Ki-moon has also spoken out, calling for violence "from any quarter" to end immediately.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-26319058
Thailand risks sliding into civil war after a wave of political violence in which 22 people have been killed, officials warned yesterday as the unrest claimed the life of a fourth child. Near-daily gun and grenade attacks in protest-hit Bangkok have raised concerns that a nearly four-month-old political crisis is entering a dangerous new phase with both sides refusing to back down. More than 700 people have been wounded since demonstrators took to the streets for rolling rallies aimed at ousting Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and ending the political dominance of her billionaire family. A five-year-old girl died of her wounds yesterday after gunmen sprayed bullets at an opposition rally in eastern Thailand at the weekend, the second child killed in the attack. On Sunday, a four-year-old boy and his sister, six, were among three victims killed by a grenade blast at a protest site in an upmarket Bangkok shopping district. The head of Thailand's equivalent of the FBI warned yesterday that the situation may "escalate into civil war". Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdith urged "restraint and patience" on both sides of the political divide, during a televised address by officials handling the security response to the crisis. His comments echoed a similar warning from the head of the coup-prone army. "Absolutely, there will be civil war if all sides do not respect rules," General Prayut Chan-O-Cha said. "The military will do everything for the country and the people... not for a particular side." Protest and government leaders bore "responsibility for the losses", Prayut said, after warning in a rare televised speech that the country risked "collapse" unless it pulled back from the brink.
http://www.scmp.com/news/asia/article/1434832/civil-war-warning-thailand-turmoil-claims-life-fourth-child In case you're wondering how fucked up it is, I saw this recently. Just a warning to anyone wanting to watch the video in the OP, it graphically shows a cop getting his leg blown off by a grenade.

I hope this ends soon with no political changes. Unlike in Ukraine and Venezuela, Yingluck is guilty of nothing save a bit of political incompetence. There is no use in ousting her in favor of royalists and militarists, just like there was no use exiling her brother in 2006.

We've had incidents of instigated riots in this country where damning evidence could be collected against the masterminds, but they either kill the witnesses or bribe the courts into getting them a favorable verdict. Either this or the police refuse to take cognizance of the cases. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same take place in Thailand either. It's easy to let a minion do the riling up of the mob, and stand back yourself from a very safe distance to watch the fun. Just the same as what's going on here.
His leg is rolling by!
That is literally all he said. He could be shocked, disgusted, anything. It was a perfectly vague exclamation.

Goddamnit, he only needed one more second.... Those shields, aside from the viewport, look like they can deflect a bit of incoming force. I wonder what would have happened if they had kept their shield up and bore the brunt of the explosion that way.
So Bosnia (although very non-violent lately), Venezuela, Ukraine and now Thailand. This is getting rather scary.
You can even see the leg fly away. Jesus, I honestly had no idea it was this bad. All the news coverage here has been about Ukraine, and even the online news I browse don't come up with this.

I mean, there was/is a pretty big deal in Tunisia, along with the other Arab Springs that barely get mentioned. I'm still really disturbed by how little Darfur was reported at the time. Al Jazeera is a pretty good source if you want a lot more coverage on stuff from the middle east/asia.
The situation is rather different from the situation in other countries. Yingluck wanted to pass an amnesty bill that would end the royalist-Thaksinist conflict that has been going on for nearly a decade by forgiving both sides for all their crimes. The problem is twofold. Not only did she do a terrible job of promoting the bill, but she included her brother in the bill, allowing him to return to his home country. This was too much for the royalists, who see Thaksin as a corrupt man going after the royal family. Most of the protests come from urban and relatively well-off people who would rather see the pro-rich policies of the royal family continue, rather than Thaksin's pro-people programs. This is a really short version though. There is a lot more to it, and Thaksin is definitely not a saint.
holy flying fuck thought that was a piece of body armour or something at first. maybe he should have just held the line? The shields might have taken most of the blast.

I am so glad I was born in a first-world country.
Imagine if that grenade hadn't bumped off that shield.
I am so glad I was born in a first-world country.
Oh it's just a matter of time
Dunno, I heard some nasty things about Thailand goverment though.
He had good programs that gave money to the poor, which was great and which threatened to royals and their charities, but he enriched himself while enriching the poor... In a country full of corrupt politicians, he was the best one Thailand ever had.
What you see in the video is his shoe and armour getting blown off, It's not his leg. Still 2 people died in the explosion however.
I am so glad I was born in a first-world country.
Because this only happens in developing countries right?
I hope that guy who tried to kick it away gets some sort of award. God knows I couldn't just fucking try to boot that shit away
