This release brings many technical improvements, as well as new features and over a thousand bug fixes. The biggest changes in this release: - Better cross platform support. Ardour now runs on GNU/Linux, OS X and for the first time, Windows. - JACK is no longer required, making it easier than ever for new users to get Ardour up and running (though JACK is still usable with Ardour). - The user interface has seen a thorough overhaul, leading to a more modern and polished experience.
ok what actually is this?
ok what actually is this?
Basically a FOSS version of say Logic Pro. Yes, there's a payment involved, but that's only for a pre-compiled build. The source code however is free and you can compile it yourself from there, only a donation is just requested by the devs (but you can put in 0 if you want). Here's the Wikipedia article if you want to do a little more reading: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ardour_(software)
audio stations are so elite that you have to pay even for the open source versions
Linux digital audioworkstation!

thanks for ruining my already lame joke
You're welcome. It's nice to be appreciated.
Well this arrived at an interesting time. I was going to buy a discount license for Reaper later this month. Anybody here have any experience with this? How does it compare to Reaper?
Looks a lot like LMMS which is also cross-platform and open-source, but completely free.
Fuck yes, finally
Well this arrived at an interesting time. I was going to buy a discount license for Reaper later this month. Anybody here have any experience with this? There are so many DAW's that are way better than Reaper but if you want to pay nothing for it, this seems like a good alternative product. I would recommend some good free VST Plugins though because the built in audio effects don't exist or aren't really good.
vastly reduced memory consumption. For an empty session Ardour now uses 80% less memory. That's really impressive
It's a shame you can't use Windows plugins on Linux.
It's a shame you can't use Windows plugins on Linux.
I read that it has VST support. So the plugins are different per OS? Ugh.
The UI looks like Ableton and FL studio had a baby and "DAW" is it cute!
How does this compare to Audacity?
ok what actually is this?
A shit version of pro tools. At least it isn't FL [editline]21st April 2015[/editline]
How does this compare to Audacity?
Is this a joke
A shit version of pro tools. At least it isn't FL [editline]21st April 2015[/editline] Is this a joke
I've never heard of this program before! Just curious.
I've never heard of this program before! Just curious.
I've never heard of it either and I'm studying to be an audio engineer. It's definitely nothing special. [editline]21st April 2015[/editline] The only thing going for it is Linux but even then it can't run most modern plugs
A shit version of pro tools. At least it isn't FL [editline]21st April 2015[/editline] Is this a joke
People who get all uppity about DAW's (especially people who whine about Fruity Loops) should be shot into the sun. It's ambitious and pretty cool - don't see why you've gotta jump the gun and be all "THIS IS SHIT"
Because hes an AUDIO ENGENEER and he never heard about it
I use a Windows 95 modular tracker to write music in 2015. I ain't afraid of no BADGERS.
A shit version of pro tools. At least it isn't FL [editline]21st April 2015[/editline] Is this a joke
literally every person studying to be an audio engineer is actually this up themselves about people who don't use tools what a great culture
How does this compare to Audacity?
Audacity and a tool like Ardour or Logic Pro are leagues apart from each other.
Audacity and a tool like Ardour or Logic Pro are leagues apart from each other.
But Audacity is great for pretty much everything you'll need to do with audio unless you're an audio engineer. Which makes this not interesting to those of us who aren't audio engineers. Which makes the question not "How does this compare to Audacity" its "Is this interesting for those of us that are happy with Audacity"
