Here's a greatly detailed tutorial if you need it:

Otherwise, here's a few over simplified guidelines to hopefully make things work nicely.

Some rules:
1: Put in some effort. As always, don't just scribble some crap and post it... you'll probably just get a million "dumb" votes anyways.
2: Save as .PNG I think most people in the MSpaint section know to do this anyways, but yeah...
3: Try not to cover other art. Inevitably there's going to be some art overlapping, but just use some common sence (see fig 1, 2, and 3).

I'd join but that banner is surrounded by brick walls that aren't iso.
Are we meant to just work around the bricks?
What scale?

Sorry about that... thanks for the feedback!
and, I fixed it...hopefully
Start with This instead (scale included btw)

A road that has a template to extend it appears, the city also is now based on grass for some reason.
Also the road has a tiny problem with connecting to itself but whatever.

Streetlights are put in and someone vandalized the Isometric sign

Have an RV
There's something wrong with this image, it's getting fucked up by image hosts or something?
When I select an area with my 0 tolerance selection, it selects a shitty shape that doesn't match anything.
http://filesmelt.com/dl/SS_2014-01-30_a_14.33_.50_.png
for example the blue part is colours:
0090b8
0091b8
0091b9
I uploaded on filesmelt and my grass is fucked up too now.
I had the exact same problem but only on the sign, I'm using Imgur and it never does this normally.
also I checked on paint and if you just copy paste the image the grass isn't messed up, so I don't know what you mean by that.

Added the local frah chikkin' joint.
Recoloured the little cafe thinger (hope you don't mind Tosmatobeef :T)
Took me all day... No need to worry if the RV blows a tire. Followed the color scheme of Inorien's chicken joint, and I don't think it's too bad for a first try...

not bad at all for a first! Awesome job, dude!

idk if it's good
Here's what I got so far, it was made using the DB 16 palette.

Here it is in 2x

I know the colors are different from the other stuff atm but maybe there can be a scary theme park or something? And maybe everyone can make their own iso avatar or house?
EDIT: and yeah, the lighting is kinda weird, one side should be lighter but I forgot to do that :P
EDIT: another idea, should we use a centralized palette?
@tigge
It looks pretty sweet! The only thing that I'm not too keen on is the palette, other than that it looks pretty nice!

Added a swimming center.
If someone wants to detail the water feel free.

I think you should add more detail.

Corrected some of the shading on the frah' chikkin place. Just added a shadow on the ground so it looks less eh compared to the RV and other buildings with shading.
Also yeah Liquid, that path looks like you drew it by hand.
Does anyone else think the grass looks greener and water a bit purple in my image compared with the above ones? Something must be wrong on my end, or Cubeupload.

It does look a bit purple.

roads are now on their own sheet.
Added more roads.

ill update the pool
Okay so this is just an idea. What if whenever someone wanted to place/build a building or something they would have to claim a plot like this:

The plot can come in different sizes and can be used to make the soon-to-be-city more organized. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not though.
Example:

updated some stuff and fixed door heights

I like these ideas actually, but I also have a few comments\revisions to submit for critique.
First idea: I like the idea of having different sections of the city having their own theme as well as each person including a building and/or avatar that credits them. If you'd like to participate in making mini themed cities or personalized buildings I won't stop you, but at the same I don't want to limit people's submissions or force people to make a particular building.
Second idea: A color palette would be nice for reference (especially if we have themes), but again, I don't want to limit creativity too much. It'd just be nice if we had references and guides to help us make reasonably content. That way we could also limit the "you didn't follow the rules exactly as stated" factor as well as promote quality to people who care.
Third idea: As good as organization is, keep in mind that if some one makes a plot to build something on for later, someone else could easily make something behind it and greatly limit the space the person has to work on. So I'd say if you want to make something, just make it where ever there is open space and don't cover up a bunch of other people's things.
You seem to know your way around pixel art (and your art shows it) so I'll be happy to consider other ideas you might have!
The same goes for everyone else! If you have an idea that's at least moderately thought out, let me know and we can refine it (if necessary) and possibly add it in.

1: Hm, I see exactly what you mean, I think I'd have to agree with you on that one.
2: If not a palette for the buildings then what about a palette for the grass (default tile?) tile that we are working with atm? And yeah, I agree again, especially since there might be disagreements with colors :P.
3: Dear me, I actually never though about that :L!
Why thank you, I do it as a hobby and on occasion as a job for a friend or random person so that helps :D. I'll give you a shout next time I come across an idea of any sort.

I see you, Heisenberg!
Also, I can't get over how tiny my frah' chikkin place doors look compared to all the other doors. I might have to re-do that building - what is it, a frah' chikkin place for ants?
Also, this is my first time doing pixel work. Guessing MSPaint is the best thing to use?
If not a palette for the buildings then what about a palette for the grass...
Thanks! I honestly didn't think about palettes and the like when I started this thread.
So now whenever someone adds something new that sets a standard of some kind (i.e. the road or grass) I'll try to chop it out and put it in the "References and resources" section in the thread description.
Also, this is my first time doing pixel work. Guessing MSPaint is the best thing to use?
Obviously there are better programs to use, but yea, mspaint works just fine. It's simple, it gets the job done, and it's actually what I use as well.
Also, if you wanna get the most out of using paint, you might want to look at this albinoblacksheep mspaint
Here's a good tutorial on how to set up GIMP for pixel art.

Oh yeah, I'm glad you mentioned GIMP. It's a great tool, the peeps who use mspaint should consider taking a look at it (it's essentially free photoshop).
I wasn't planning on posting this until it was actually done but no one has posted in a day (yikes) so I guess I'll leave it here.

Obviously still in WIP form, the colors will be changed later on...
You people have a great gift. I've tried Pixel Art before and it is way too time consuming for me. The shading, colors, every detail counts and I just can not make it look shaded or even good.
