Hello everyone! I decided to show off some of my photos (I'm a hobbyist not a pro) and ask the communities opinion of them. I welcome criticism but I don't want to see "It sucks." If it sucks please tell me why so I can better myself. Thanks, without further a due..

incredibly generic, uninspired stuff. there isn't really focus on anything in particular: my eye isn't drawn anywhere.

Thank you for your honest opinion. Whoops I'll contact a mod to move it.
How I think you could improve: Don't take macros unless you are VERY good at it. Macros are always uninspired and uninteresting unless they have an interesting subject and are done right. Start thinking of the bigger picture, and try to 'capture the moment'.
This is something I would call a 'good' macro: http://foto.jaanus.cc/?p=224

Thanks for the advice. Will look into not using macro as much. I might go take some shots today so I'll take that advice to mind.
find an interesting location or something you find cool
the key is a lot of practice
and a lot of set-up knowledge

i wouldn't say that's the key. The fundamental statement of photography is to capture an image of an interesting subject in front of a relevant background. If you follow that then your photos are likely to turn out ok.
What I mean is that even that needs practice. It takes some knowledge and just plain practice to get interesting photos that capture a scene well. It takes an eye for it which is learned.
I went out to take some today. I had lots of fun but feel they are not all that good.

on a darker note, all this is boring macro generic shit
IMO they lack a focus and good framing. The subjects from your most recent stuff are more interesting, but need to really force your eye on what you want to convey. For that little island it would have been better to capture the island and maybe some boats in the background, without the clutter that's off to the side.
Read this, I always link it as a lot of people don't understand composition and framing so much, people find it very useful.

Telling me it's "shit" doesn't help. Please take your nonconstructive criticism else where.

You are a real asshole, you know that? To be honest most of your pictures are uninspired shit to. I won't tell you why though, because like you, I am too good to give helpful criticism.
Jamesworth, those pictures are already much better. One thing to watch out for is putting the horizon on the dead center line. Unless it is a somethign symmetrical like a mountain reflecting on a lake this is usually a no-no. Try thinking of splitting the image into thirds. You want to put the horizon on one of these "third lines". Generally put it on the top one unless the sky is really interesting or something like that.

Thanks I'll take that into consideration when I go out next. I'm in Rhode Island now so there is some nice places to take pictures I'll probably get some up tomorrow.

Stop threadshitting, your argument is silly, it's like saying that I can't call someone shit at basketball if I'm worse than them. As long as I admit that I'm shit then I'm well within my right to call them shit too.
Yeah lets not turn this into an argument. I'd like CONSTRUCTIVE criticism for the record. Don't call it "shit" or "crap" unless you have a reason to back it up and a way to help me improve.

It's more that he is calling it shit without providing reasons why it is shit and how to improve, and calling it shit for something that is the primary thing he does.

Wow, and it was all so friendly. Can't you both leave the photography section for a few days and cool off? Or atleast make cyberlove over PM so we can stop listening to this nonsense.
