That fresh video smell~ <3
I can't believe he literally just broke down into a study-parroting conspiracy theorist halfway through the video.
That's what this game does to people I guess.
I hope he does a video on human revolution or Mankind Divided.
Invisible War is most likely his next video. Hopefully he does Human Revolution after that too.
Wouldn't complain if he went off on a tanget and covered some other game inbetween.
objectively the greatest game of all time
Stuff got pretty deep in this video after 20 minutes.
I got very excited when I read he was gonna do the Deus Ex trilogy in the comments of the former video. I didn't know he would end up doing it already, this is great.
Those 40 minutes were so short, what the hell

Can you really prove him wrong about any of this though? This isn't some stupid flat earth or fake moon landing conspiracy theory, this is something with sound reasoning, actual evidence to base claims off of, and something that could very very easily be happening. I mean hell, this isn't even an actual conspiracy theory, there's no real conspiracy going on here, it's simply a small group of mostly separated individuals attempting to keep and expand the power they already have from the financial gains they've made over the last 50 years.

"anything negative in society is just a loony conspiracy theory, especially anything based on real studies."
You're just as paranoid as someone who thinks obama is a lizard.
i wanna watch it but it looks spoilery past 11:20 and ive just recently started my first deus ex playthrough :(

Yeah, like he said in the video, there's no Illuminati or other secret global group conspiracies going on, that's just something to spice the game's story, reality is simpler than that as it always tends to be, it's just a bunch of individual rich people doing anything they can to get richer, milking every catastrophe, paying every politician that they can and exploiting every hole in the law to the last dollar.
But no, they're not going around forming secret global organizations or creating terrorist groups or viruses to purposely cause disasters that they then profit on and other crazy shit, that is conspiracy theory territory.

That's not how it works, burden of proof is on the person making the claim. Now I think his basic idea is pretty accurate but to support his idea he's telling us that """""Studies""""" say he's right, without even really citing his sources. Anybody can grab a study to support their conclusion, because there's an enormous amount of studies with sketchy procedures or data manipulation, which is often very hard to spot. Poor studies get into academic journals all the time. You really need to look at all the viewpoints of a field to get a grasp on what most of the experts are saying and why they're saying it. A study in a vacuum rarely is helpful to a layperson.
I'm suprised that he didn't mention the theme when he started talking about the music. I never played this game, but this song has me hooked!

Remember the people who have a shitfit on twitter every time DE:HR and DE:MD draw parallels to racial problems? Mechanical apartheid, etc? As if it's all oh so inappropriate oh my god!
This is why those people are idiots.
If a game is some boring, tepid love letter to whatever cause they happen to support, waving the flag of whatever political affiliation they believe to be 'right' around like its life depends on it, they'll support the hell out of it. "Wow, so deep! So meaningful! Why can't more games be like this?"
But if a game actually uses the strengths of the medium, creates a compelling experience that is both deep on the mechanical and thematic level, they hate it. Even if it says what they'd want it to, they hate it. It's another bit of immature bargain-bin tripe that deserves to be lost to history. Punchy robot game, etc.
I'm not talking about whether or not the game is 'right' about the whole plutocracy thing, I'm talking about the fact that there's obviously a layer which talks about it, and I think that most people would consider the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer to be a very real, very serious problem.
Hmm. On one hand, I was planning on playing through Deus Ex eventually.
On the other hand - I was planning on playing it "eventually". And I've got a shitload of other stuff I'm also planning on playing "eventually".
And it's Ross.
Ross wins out.

My "eventually" for deus ex was 75% off steam sale
My eventually was my third attempt at playing it and saying fuck stealth and becoming a cold blooded killer.
Also I love it when Ross gets super deep into what he has to say. Regardless of whether you agree with him or not, you have to admit no other person on YouTube is just like him.
Loved this video. I should say that this is absolutely my favorite game of all time. But I gotta say that there are a few things he said that bugged me. I disagreed with a few things but you know, difference in opinion. That said, some of the stuff he said was just wrong.
You can absolutely beat the game without killing anybody without glitching. It was designed for this. Also, The Nameless Mod is absolutely Deus Ex. It takes its choices seriously, and the entire story branches with dramatically different missions halfway through. Very good mod, definitely play it if you want more Deus Ex. I have nothing to do with Planet Deus Ex, the forum this was built around, and I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
That's about it, really. Very interesting video, really made me remember why I loved this game so much.
Be right back, gonna replay Deus Ex.

For me it was the opposite. It took me three attempts to get into it. The first two times I was trying to approach it like a traditional FPS. At the time I wasn't really into stealth games, so I got my ass handed to me. The third time it finally clicked and I started thinking harder about what I was doing and what I needed to do. I started using stealth and tactics. That's when the game sunk its hooks into me.
There are two types of people in this world: people who have beaten the first level and love Deus Ex, and people who haven't and don't.The first level of Deus Ex is sort of like St. Peter at the pearly gates. If you can't look at situations a little bit differently and come out on top, if you aren't worthy, you won't get to play Deus Ex because you simply won't get it. If you do get it, if you can think outside of the traditional FPS-RPG box and complete that first level, if you can see past its myriad limitations and flaws, you will be treated to one of the best games of all-time.

Couldn't agree more. While Deus Ex is certainly rough around the edges, it also influenced and encapsulates everything I personally love in games. My biggest pet peeve is when people say it's aged too much, when it really isn't that bad. If you can put up with the amount of jank in a game like Skyrim, then Deus Ex is fine.

That straight-up philosophical and political babble is something I'm really missing from a lot of cyberpunky scifi games these days. I can see devs trying to avoid being too on the nose and running risk of sounding pretentious, but it often leads to the game painting in very broad, "inoffensive" strokes like "punks VS establishment", which can get pretty boring for me.
When Deus Ex decided to "get real for a second", it really stood out to me because of the almost cartoony assortment of wild conspiracies running rampant in the world of Deus Ex. Having a chat with the Morpheus AI about surveillance, civilization and god was my personal standout moment. Too bad I didn't find one like it in DXHR.

Its funny, because the new DE trying to address discrimination is getting criticized for "appropriating" racism, or something.
A lot of very ignorant stupid people think "oh, its a video game, video games are for kids, therefore anything discussing serious issues must be trivializing it"
I really want to see Ross do Star Control 2, I think it's a perfect game for this show and I think it's nuts how few people know about it considering how much Mass Effect ended up taking from it. It's way ahead of its time.

I actually asked him about it and he said something about it looking like a 4x game which he wasn't a big fan of
i'll have to disagree with him that it's impossible to be non-leathal in this game. the prod is pretty much the greatest weapon for non-leathal runs, since it's one/two hits on most enemies to knock em out, or prod them and then use a blunt object. as for other characters like bosses and such, you can sometimes just ignore them or talk them out of the fight before the fight happens.

finding ammo for it sucks dick tho

i appreciate how ross tackled the idea of rich vs. everyone else in this video. it's obviously sided with everyone else, but it's not as demonizing as it could be. it's just like "hey, these people aren't evil, they're just dumb and using their power for dumb things." it's just a spiral into foolishness via money and power, not an active attack on our society, which is how i've always seen it, and if those in power could see it like that (vs. people screaming "DEMON CORPORATIONS" at them all day) they might actually listen (cause nobody listens to angry people.)
this has got to be one of the most reasonable videos on the subject because it doesn't become a conspiracy theory, it's just a statement of facts that have reasonable and well documented evidence, and goes into detail on why Deus Ex is so prophetic and amazing in terms of how well it predicted this kind of thing, especially to be before 2001. which only terrifies me a bit more if human revolution could ever be truthful, as that future is incredibly terrifying.

Mechanical augmentations are advancing way quicker than I ever thought, yet capitalism and greed also seems to be growing.
And the fact that Eidos actually teamed up with a prosthetic company to make sleek designer looking limbs that are also affordable. At the very least, the future will look like HR.

Yeah well that's pretty much the only non-lethal weapon in the game worth using, other than the baton which is really only useful if you spec into low-tech. The crossbow is total shit tier, not only is there barely any ammo for it, it alerts your enemies and causes them to run around the map for an eternity before they finally decide to be knocked out.
And then when you look at all of the lethal weapons you have, sniper rifle, the GEP gun and the dragon tooth (best weapon in the game that can one hit most enemies)....

I don't have the patience to disprove anything in this game, but what I do know is that industrialization led to fewer farms, and thus less self-employment. That was one of the things I caught him saying. It's not out of the question that there's a reasonable explanation for the other changes he pointed out. I don't hate Ross I just thought the conspiracy stuff was a tangent that lasted too long.
Did you even bother to look at the evidence he showed?
