That means a lot of ethnic and religious tension. The French people themselves have actually been very decent to the Jews since World War II.

France and Paris in particular also has a big culture of protests. I went there for 2 days and saw 2 protests a few years back. One of the protests was firemen setting off fireworks and flares.
