(Things get great at 1:07) [release] Moments before he was slated to speak via live video stream before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), GOP presidential contender Newt Gingrich was caught on camera sleeping rather soundly. After he awoke, however, things became even more bizarre as it seemed the former House Speaker was either thinking about the secretary of defense or was talking about him with someone not seen. You can hear Gingrich say: “Listening to Panetta is not a relaxing experience.” He then slipped back into his stupor. Upon his second awakening, Gingrich was introduced for his speech, where he then “welcomed questions from the panel.” The problem was — there was no panel. “I understand you have a panel. I look forward to any questions,” he began. An awkward 12 seconds of silence followed and Gingrich stared blankly into the camera. This must have been much too much for the AIPAC introducer to bear as he cut the pregnant pause by saying, “Mr. Speaker, there is not a panel.” “Please do continue, sir,” he urged. Gingrich then sprung halfway back to his usual form: “Let me just say – I say this pretty briefly, I think,” Gingrich riffed. “We need a fundamental reassessment of our entire understanding of the threat of radical Islam.” [/release] Source.

This might explain how most republicans disconnect themselves that much from public opinion Cut them some slack, they're all in the third age, poor ol' people need their afternoon nap :(
Great demonstration of his interest in politics, rather than money.

i don't really see what's so ridiculous here people fall asleep all the time, he clearly wasn't trying to
That double-chin
As much as I don't like him, I can understand why he was so sleepy.
It's true, anything can look adorable when sleeping. I should know, I'm a cat.

Just put a tenner in front of him and he will look like a happy spaniel.
umm no i'm pretty sure Newt is still ugly when he sleeps.
he looks angry
Hey, when you're tired you're tired. It happens.
hush little baby don't say a word. daddy's gonna buy you a abortion ward. and if that ward goes and aborts daddy's gonna tear it's shit
Seriously though, campaigning is beyond exhausting for candidates no matter their age.
Would've been funny if he was actually getting a stroke. [editline]10th March 2012[/editline] Sorry sorry please dont hurt me karma
ahahhahahah looks like someone didnt get their beauty sleep
Looks like hes trying to catch up on the 60+ years hes missed.
I can just imagine a teacher waking a teenage Gingrich from a deep sleep in the middle of a class, only for him to spring up and yell "We need to fundamentally reassess the threat of radical Islam!"
I thought his face was going to get sucked into his neck
As much as I don't like him, meh, it'd be bloody hard staying awake when you're not being talked to, while campaigning. Non-stop moving around.
Damn liberals.... Get out of my yard!.... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
He looks like a little baby sleeping.

I love how he reacts after waking up.
kind of surreal to see an inhuman monster in a position of human vulnerability
