• In a First, Experiment Links Brains Of Two Rats
In an experiment that sounds straight out of a science fiction movie, a Duke neuroscientist has connected the brains of two rats in such a way that when one moves to press a lever, the other one does, too — most of the time.
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/01/science/new-research-suggests-two-rat-brains-can-be-linked.html?_r=0

Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile. We are rat.
snip- okay ill stop.
gee wizz now what are we going to do with this?

As cool as this is from a technical standpoint I always feel a bit uncomfortable with the idea of messing with brains for reasons other than medical research.
First this, and before we know it we've made a real-life Geth consensus of rats. Don't do it science, I don't want our ancestors to have to have to be space-vagrants who go around strip-mining the galaxy to hell and stuck living on ships.
The one rat is going to think "To get out of the maze, turn left at the next junction." The other rat will think "Um, your left or my left." The scientists will sit back and think "Welcome to our world."
"at least I'm safe inside my mind"
The hivemind has begun.
I can completely see this becoming a precursor to either a hivemind running the planet, or the C-Con and the Zone coming into existence. Anyways, incredible that they did this, i figured that if you could implant a chip in a brain to control machinery, you could link a pair of brains.
I will now question if my thoughts are really my thoughts for the rest of my life.
something influencing my hand,..... nope don't think so.
Imagine if we applied all the technology we've researched for rats to a single batch of like, a hundred, then let them breed....

What if one of the rats dies?

I mean, starships are fucking rad.
