Man I can't wait for this, I love the Battletech universe so much.
They also released some campaign screens here
Played the Kickstarter beta for it and loved it. They say that in the campaign the only fail condition is bankruptcy. You can neglect the story missions and let the bad guys take over everything and then start working for them.

That sounds pretty cool, but who are the bad guys? Liao? :v:
Edit: Actually now that I read this I understand the story thing better now.
the tanks look much smaller than they should
i want to play this now though
Looks great, but I HATE turn-based tactics games where you have to wait for the enemy's turn outside of combat. As a genre there's still a lot to be learned from JA2.
Oh it's MechWarrior 5 I was thinking of.
I understand MechWarrior takes its roots in the tabletop Battletech game but it is so much better as a real-time first or third-person shooter. Trying to move that turn-based tabletop gameplay to a video game falls short every time in my opinion. As much as I love MechWarrior, I'm probably going to have to skip this.
I would really like a good first person mech game with strategy elements (eg commanding troops from the cockpit of your battlemech), though. Designating targets, recommending movements, and so on would be a cool gameplay mechanic in a future first person mech game.
Oh man that looks good, I love the battletech universe and personally I do enjoy the occasional turn based game.
Not saying I think a Mechwarrior 4 style game wouldn't be awesome as well, I still feel exited for this entry in the series as well.
I loved Mechassault when I was like ten. I've always wanted to try the actual games.

Or you can just say that you don't like Turn Based Strategy Games, and be done with it.

Mech Commander was a fucking amazing series and it wasn't an FPS/TPS. I would've loved if this was real-time, but pretending the Mech (and thereby also BattleTech) series only belongs in FPS/TPS is silly.
I am so glad this game exists and looks as good as it does. The Battletech franchise needs something good to happen to it for once. Is there a solid release date for this yet?

I did
I'm not begrudging anyone for being excited for the game lmao I totally get why people who are about this stuff are excited for it. It looks great as a turn-based strategy game. I just personally think the turn-based Battletech formula works better on the tabletop and for mech video games I prefer real-time. I didn't say "man fuck all these gay retards likin this SHIT lookin ass GAME". I would personally prefer a real-time game.

But... but it's just tabletop. Except you're not as limited in scenery and models don't wobble about as much.
Looks pretty sweet. I recall hearing that the devs behind this got thrown into some kind of a legal battle, glad to see that seems to have caused little damage. I think my only serious complaint with what was shown was the atrocious wait times when the squad was being bombarded by rockets from afar. I was just sitting there wondering when it would all end. Hopefully the game will have some way to speed up turns when things like that start happening.
As someone who loves the shit out of XCOM I think I'll thoroughly enjoy this game. The formula seems to be pretty different and I thought it was neat how rather than rushing for cover (since you got fuck huge mechs) it seemed to be all about getting as many enemies in sight and blowing them the fuck up.

With the community patch, JA2 is the finest turn based tactical game ever made.
The obvious absence of its influence over the modern XCOM games has been sad to watch. This is showing a similar absence.
People really need to play the best entries in the genre before venturing into it.
