An unexpected characteristic has emerged among many swine flu victims who become severely ill: They are fat. Doctors tracking the pandemic say they see a pattern in hospital reports from Glasgow to Melbourne and from Santiago to New York. People infected with the bug who have a body mass index greater than 40, deemed morbidly obese, suffer respiratory complications that are harder to treat and can be fatal. With the new virus on a collision course with the obesity epidemic, the World Health Organization says it’s gathering statistics to confirm and understand this development. Drugmaker Roche Holding AG is combing through studies to determine whether heavier people should get bigger doses of its Tamiflu antiviral. “Morbid obesity is one of the most common findings turning up in severely ill patients,” said Nikki Shindo, who is leading the investigation of swine flu patients at the WHO in Geneva. “It’s a huge problem.” In Canada’s Manitoba province, three out of five people treated for the new flu strain in intensive care units are obese, said Ethan Rubenstein, head of infectious diseases at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. Patients with flu symptoms should be considered at risk of complications if they carry excess weight, according to Rubenstein. So far, the evidence is anecdotal. No global or national data have been reported. Scotland, where deep-fried foods such as Mars bars and pizzas contribute to the highest obesity rate in Europe, reported the continent’s first two deaths from H1N1 and has experienced a fifth of the region’s fatalities. McDonalds
swine flu is probably hungry if they werent hungry they would be eating slim people
This is a very big problem.
Their fault for being fat.
This is a very big problem.
This could turn into a very huge epidemic.
I never understood why viruses kill people. As soon as the person dies so does the virus, so surely the virus would adapt to make the person even stronger/healthier to keep them alive for longer so the virus lives too.

Good, maybe less of the disgusting lardcakes won't disgrace my line of view anymore.
This virus is going to be a GIGANTIC problem.
This could turn into a very huge epidemic.
But it might thin out the population a bit.
These people 'ought to learn not to pig out.
People with a BMI of over 40 are idiots personally I'm quite big, but a BMI of 40 is gigantic
it was engineered by the government to kill off all the fatties swine flu thinks it's infecting pigs etc
This could turn into a very huge epidemic.
Fat chance of that happening.
Swine flue is widely spreading. This problem is getting way out of proportion and is causing a large stir among the public.
Fat chance of that happening.
Their chances of dieing are about as good as their weight. Not thin
pigs targeting pigs lol
I might hate fat people, since i think it's a good thing.
Damn. Well there goes episode 3.
Wow, that's so ironic
An unlikely cure to the obesity epidemic

Really, people that have a BMI over 30 just don't care about their body. Then again, I don't apparently with my BMI being 18.4...

H1N1 virus targets those with pre-existing medical condition, the elderly, the very young and pregnant women. People who are fit could heal much faster than those who are not obviously.

(Go Wiki that up, not gonna explain it.)
Looks like this is one thing fat people will find hard to chew on... ...YEEEEAAAAAHHHHHH!
