John Frusciante
John Frusciante, was the backbone for the Chili's mainstream success. He replaced Hillel Slovak as guitarist, changing the Peppers sound from a heavy riff sound, to more mellow, emotional guitar playing, leading to the bands later successful albums. The man had such a hard time with drugs, that he had to have all his teeth removed due to an oral infection. His arm is also ravaged with scars from his heavy drug usage, which he has since grown out of. Being his quiet self, he could not handle the fame of Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and quit for a time, and spiraling into his for-mentioned drug addiction, mainly with Heroin. He rejoined the band, one not-nearly-as-succesful album later, to produce the bands best hit so far, Californication, and so on.
He quit in 2009, much to many's upset, and was replaced with Josh Klinghoffer, a young, fresh face, and a friend of the Peppers. [/release]

Anthony Kiedis
Anthony Kiedis, born November 1, 1962 is of Lithuanian descent American vocalist/lyricist and occasional actor who grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
He's the main Lyricist/Vocalist for the Peppers, occasionally singing behind John Frusciante on some of his covers.
He, along with John Frusciante, was addicted to heroin, having gone in and out of his addiction, he's been clean since 2000 according to him. Him growing up in a household of addicts, and then his band members later kept him addicted for awhile. [/release]

Flea (Michael Peter Balzary)
yes, he's ̶n̶u̶d̶e̶ almost nude, that might tell you something about his personality.
Flea, or Michael Peter Balzary (born October 16, 1962), is an Australian-born American bassist, trumpet player and occasional actor. He is best known as the bassist, co-founding member, and one of the composers of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Often dying his small amount of hair random colours, going on stage completely stoned and naked, Flea gives the RHCP their personality, in both his actions, and his skill on bass. He's not the type to strum eight notes along with the guitar, Flea's playing is the reason I got into bass. His bass lines vary from melody-backing, to upfront funk, and he sometimes plays trumpet on stage, and piano recently on the new upcoming album. [/release]

Chad Smith
No, this sexy beast is NOT Will Ferrell.
Chad Smith (born October 25, 1961) is an American musician, best known as the longtime and current drummer of Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Chad is a very, very solid drummer. On studio albums, he does what he needs to, and doesn't let himself go crazy. But when he's on stage, he'll give it his all, and generally go nuts on his drum set. And yes, he is aware how much he looks like Will Ferrell. [/release]

The Red Hot Chili Peppers is the first album by American funk rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on August 10, 1984 on EMI. The album was produced by Gang of Four guitarist Andy Gill, and is the only album to feature guitarist Jack Sherman.
The Pepper's first album. As with a lot of groups, it didn't reach much success, and didn't gather amazing reviews, but it did get some showtime on MTV, and building up a small fanbase.

Freakey Styley
Freaky Styley is the second studio album by American funk rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on August 16, 1985 on EMI. Freaky Styley marks founding guitarist Hillel Slovak's studio album debut, following his return to the band earlier in the year. The album is also the last to feature drummer Cliff Martinez.
"Look at that turtle go bro"
This album didn't really garner much success either, though it did get more favourable reviews. Flea stated that this album, while not very popular, meant a lot to him personally, and called it "too funky for white radio, too punk rockin' for black." Still at this point there is no Chad, John or Josh.

The Uplift Mofo Party Plan
The Uplift Mofo Party Plan is the third studio album by American funk rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on September 29, 1987 on EMI. Due to lineup changes following their formation in 1983, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan is the only studio album to feature all four original members of the band: vocalist Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, guitarist Hillel Slovak, and drummer Jack Irons. Uplift features the band's signature funk-rock musical style, but also draws influences from reggae and heavy metal.
This album actually reached some mainstream success on the Top 200 list, reaching 148. Unfortunatly after the tour, Slovak died, and Irons quit the band, as he couldn't take Slovak's death. Following his quitting and Slovak's death, Anthony and Flea recruited Chad Smith and John Frusciante after a Jam session, and proceeded onto their next album.

Mother's Milk
I'll start at their album Mother's Milk, when guitarist John Frusciante joined them. This album, at it's release in 1989, was more of a success then it's first three albums combined, or their first taste at mainstream success, but they weren't there yet. It can be described as alternative rock, or even funk metal. Definitely not their easiest to get into.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik
The musical styles of Blood Sugar Sex Magik differed notably from the techniques employed on the Chili Peppers' preceding album, Mother's Milk, and featured little use of heavy metal guitar riffs. The album's subject matter incorporated sexual innuendos and references to drugs and death as well as themes of lust and exuberance.
While Mother's Milk was their first taste of success, this is the album that sent them soaring, and included one of their most popular songs to this day, Under The Bridge. The album sold over 17 million worldwide.

One Hot Minute
One Hot Minute was the only album that guitarist Dave Navarro recorded with the band. His presence altered the Red Hot Chili Peppers' sound considerably. The lyrics contain fewer sexual themes than previous records and explore darker subject matters, such as drug use, depression, anguish and grief. It also (re-)integrated use of heavy metal guitar riffs. Vocalist Anthony Kiedis, who had resumed addictions to cocaine and heroin in 1994 after being sober for more than five years, approached his lyricism with a reflective outlook on drugs and their harsh effects.
This is one of those albums that a band releases, looks back, and sighs. It's still a good album, but following the success of Blood Sugar Sex Magik, it wasn't nearly as successful, selling half as many copies. The guitar work on it is a lot different then the other albums, because of Dave Navarro's work on it. I still recommend it for Aeroplane, My Friends, One Hot Minute and Falling Into Grace.

Californication
This record was a notable shift in style from what was produced with Navarro. The album's subject material incorporated various sexual innuendos commonly associated with the band, but in terms of themes it is more varied than previous outings. Lust, death, contemplations of suicide, drugs, globalization, and travel are all part of themes introduced in the album.
This is, in my opinion, the bands best work, in both terms of musical quality and in sales, and sending them even further into world wide fame. The return of John Frusciante, now out of rehab, helped reclaim the guitar quality they had with Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Songs like Scar Tissue still gets radio-time, over 12 years later.

By The Way
By the Way was applauded by critics as a departure from the band's previous styles, and is recognized for the melodic and subdued emotions given by the Chili Peppers. By the Way contained virtually none of the signature punk-funk fusion the band had become known for playing. Frusciante has stated that writing "By the Way was one of the happiest times in my life." The album went to sell over 10 million copies worldwide.
This is the bands quietest, prettiest work so far, and probably right up there along with Californication, though for different reasons. There are a lot of good songs on here, such as Dosed, By The way, Venice Queen, and one of my favourite songs, Tear.

Stadium Arcadium
The album was critically praised for integrating musical styles from several aspects of the band's career. Stadium Arcadium is also the group's last to feature guitarist John Frusciante, who confirmed his departure from the band in 2009.
Stadium Arcadium is a tough one to tackle. I'm not a big fan of Double Albums, but this album is still really good. For 28 tracks, it has a lot of fillers it seems, but the rest are pretty damn good. I won't delve to much into it, as this album brings back some bad memories (Not the album itself), which really clouds over my judgment of this album as it is.
I'm With You
I'm with You is the forthcoming tenth studio album by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, which will be released on August 30, 2011 in the United States and a few days earlier in other parts of the world. Produced by Rick Rubin, it is the band's first studio album to feature guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, following the departure of John Frusciante in 2009, and is their first since Stadium Arcadium (2006), marking the longest gap, to date, between studio albums. Regarding the album, vocalist Anthony Kiedis noted, "there is no question - this is a beginning," with drummer Chad Smith stating, "this is a new band. Same name, but it's a new band."[1]
According to bassist Flea, I'm With You is "about life and death and betrayal," and is "much more poignant than our other records."
Obviously I can't say much about the album, as I haven't heard it, but I can speculate. I've heard Josh Klinghoffer sing, and he has a beautiful backing-vocal voice, and with Flea on piano and the name of the album, I can assume this will be more similiar to By The Way then to Californication. Guess we'll see!

Yup, replaced by his friend Josh Klinghoffer. His playing style is somewhat similiar, and he has the same high-pitched backing vocals that John had. Still quite a change.

One of my favourite bands, these guys are so damn good.
I used to listen to RHCP quite a bit, should probably listen to Blood Sugar Sex Magik sometime soon.

I'd say that is my favorite album that they've made. Then again, I've only listened to that and Stadium Arcadium.
Used to listen to these guys on long drives. Flea is such a beast.
I love "Soul To Squeeze". Pretty sure it was a B-side to Under the Bridge (Or another song) But it ended up getting its own release as a single, but was never on any albums.
You should add their fust two albums, freaky styley and self titled. Some pretty cool stuff on there.

They're all brilliant musicians. Chad Smith is one of my favourite drummers and is very underrated I believe.
Awesome fucking band, Funky Monks is one of my all-time favorites.
One of the few remaining mainstream guitar bands. I absolutely love John Frusciante and am very sad about him leaving the band. I don't know what they'll do without him. I guess his replacement was one of his friends so I guess I shouldn't be too worried.

THANK YOU FACEPUNCH FOR FINALLY MAKING A DECENT THREAD WITH RHCP :h:
But you should throw in a Klinghoffer section; he's an actual member. Frusciante deserves his because hes so legendary and as much of the Chili Peppers as Kiedis.
And fuck the fact that you left out the first three albums!
I fucking love Get Up and Jumo and Freaky Styley. Give them sections too.
