Sen. John McCain indicated he may be changing his stance on marijuana legalization during a town hall event in Arizona on Thursday.Arizona Daily Star columnist Tim Steller tweeted that McCain said "maybe we should legalize" during the Phoenix event: McCain: "Maybe we should legalize. We're certainly moving that way as far as marijuana is concerned. I respect the will of the people" McCain isn't the first one in his family to show signs of support for marijuana legalization. His daughter Meghan McCain came out in favor of pot legalization -- and admitted she'd smoked a joint -- in June 2012. McCain didn't just address the topic of pot legalization during the town hall. He faced a tough crowd during the event while discussing the situation in Syria, with many in the crowd largely opposed to military action.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/06/john-mccain-marijuana-legalization_n_3879907.html
where was the real mccain when he was running back in 2008? they must have created a floppy costume for dick cheney to wear back then mccain's clearly got a good head on his shoulder most of the time

Doesn't he also oppose boots on the ground in Syria?
just a thought: now that everybody is getting disillusioned with obama anyway, McCain is, in a brilliant political maneuver, fishing for votes like this? I'm not saying this is what I believe, but first with the Allahu Akbar statement and now this? [editline]7th September 2013[/editline] goddammit beaten to it
Also, he might just be saying this to deflect criticism on his unpopular stance about Syria.
Doesn't he also oppose boots on the ground in Syria?
I'm pretty sure he's pro-intervention.
doubt it, he's probably just saying a bunch of shit to gain political favor politicians say shit they don't mean all the time
I don't think he's going to make a run again or anything like that I mean the dudes old as the ice caps he's gotta be getting to the point where he's just going to start saying anything he wants out of frustration and realizations that he's near the end of his career maybe
ill smoke to that

[editline]7th September 2013[/editline] goddammit beaten to it
Keep in mind that saying that USA should legalize is a massively controversial in America and while it might get him a few votes, he would risk losing another bunch in the far right. When you want to build support, you usually try to go for a bit less polarizing opinions.

[editline]7th September 2013[/editline] goddammit beaten to it
Thing is, the statement about the usage of Allahu Akbar is not going to win him votes in the US. It may shift his voting demographic, but it's definitely not going to give him a leg up. Part of the reason he lost in the first place was Republican criticism that he was too moderate (which led to the terrible attempt to deflect it by taking on Sarah Palin as VP), and being in any way not highly critical, even hostile, towards Muslims is not going to win him favour amongst them; as awful as that sounds.
Mccain probably wont run for anything more than Senator anymore. People think he is too old (though he will probably live for a while yet)
"We're certainly moving that way as far as marijuana is concerned. I respect the will of the people". Ok then why do you push for intervention in Syria when only 30-some percent of Americans hold the same position?
I still think McCain would've been a serious contender last election rather than Romney. The man is pretty decent.
Pro-legalization but also pro-intervention. McCain, why do you have to have really bad ideas next to your really good ideas?
So, McCain is suddenly trying to get people to thing he's young and understands them? Makes sense really, it's kind of his job.
When you think about it, McCain saying he's for legalization is fine and dandy but his word really means shit. It's easy to for him to say "I support this". McCain, if you really are serious about this - then why don't you introduce some legislation into Congress?
I've never had a huge problem with pot, I don't really smoke it myself but I have friends that do and they're mostly normal, fun people. Just that the whole way the uh... "marijuana community" or whatever acts is a little annoying at times. I'm all in favor of legalizing it and giving it a substantial tax, I'd love more money for the government to spend on important shit if people are willing to buy it legally.
I read his biography. I have so much respect for John McCain. He's a badass, as well as a good and honest man. About as great of a guy as you can expect in Washington to be honest.
Puppet being less puppet
I don't even like weed but I'd rather people stop dying and going to jail over using it. Weed being illegal definitely seems to be causing nothing but harm
where was the real mccain when he was running back in 2008?
Locked away behind a giant wall named Sarah Palin
god bless you john
He says he respects the will of the people only when its actually convenient, somebody should have asked for his position on Syria immediately right afterwards.
He says he respects the will of the people only when its actually convenient, somebody should have asked for his position on Syria immediately right afterwards.
I would like to see public opinion in Arizona specifically, since that is who he is really supposed to represent.
