The Met Office has issued nine warnings for ice after disruption to road, rail and air travel following up to 16cm (6in) of snow in some areas.
Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the M25 and M40, with drivers forced to spend the night in their cars.
Half of the 1,300 scheduled flights at Heathrow were cancelled and some trains and Tube services also disrupted.
Snow swept down to London and East Anglia on Sunday after covering parts of Scotland, Wales, northern England and the Midlands on Saturday.
Church Fenton, in North Yorkshire, reported 16cm (6in), which contributed to more than 60 accidents on the region's roads.
BBC forecaster Holly Green said ice was likely to be a hazard, particularly across much of England and south-eastern parts of Wales, as rain hits frozen surfaces and lying snow freezes overnight.
She said there was a risk of further small accumulations of snow in eastern parts of England on Monday morning, with patchy rain elsewhere.
The Met Office advised people to "be aware" of the dangers of the icy conditions
- Forecasters warned of widespread ice in Wales as the worst of the weather eased
- A 35-year-old woman was taken to hospital with hypothermia after being rescued from a frozen lake in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, on Saturday evening
- Key roads in and out of Dover were closed after heavy overnight snow in Kent, while rail operators reported delays and cancellations
- There were several incidents in Surrey overnight, including a car that ran into the back of ambulance in Ashford
- Doncaster's Robin Hood Airport was closed while snow was cleared from the runway
- In Staffordshire more than 100 vehicles were abandoned on the A50 in Uttoxeter after two lorries jack-knifed, although the road has bee re-opened
- There were warnings of icy roads after 5cm of snow fell in parts of Scotland
- Sunday's Championship match between Derby County and Nottingham Forest was postponed and all three horse racing meetings in the UK - Fontwell, Kempton and Musselburgh - cancelled
Heathrow operator BAA said airlines expected to operate about half of the 1,300 flights originally scheduled for Sunday. Richard Scott, from BAA, said "If we don't proactively cancel flights, the delays build and build and build and it's much worse for passengers."
British Airways said it would allow passengers scheduled to fly on Sunday to re-book for journeys between Monday and Thursday.
Birmingham Airport reopened after closing whilst snow was cleared from the runway, and Leeds Bradford Airport has warned of delays or cancellations.

On the roads, Thames Valley Police said as many as 100 vehicles were stationary on the M40 between Junction 4 High Wycombe and Junction 9 Bicester for several hours and snow ploughs were brought in to help clear the roads.
Motorist Katie Jones told BBC News she had spent hours sitting in her car on the M25 in Hertfordshire.
"We were stationary for about seven and a half hours. We passed cars abandoned in the side of the road, having crashed off. We passed lorries jack knifed across two, three lanes of the motorway and it's been impassable in large part."

Snowed heavily last night for a few hours.
This is the view from my kitchen:

It snowed abit where I live and either melted or turned to that crappy grey slush with a few hours.
And yet my sixth form will inevitably still be open tomorrow.
Sigh.
Wish we got snow here :(

I live ~15 miles from Manchester I got a fuckload of snow all up in my shit over here
Ice is going to be a bastard tomorrow
It snowed heavily yesterday, then it rained over night and melted the snow :(
This shit happens every year and yet we never do anything about it. The Ruskies and Scandinavians seem to manage fine, and they get shit tonnes more snow than us, how do you guys do it?
There was talk of hiring or buying some of the snow ploughs used in these icy places, but of course doing that would make sense so that's never going to be more than a pipe dream. Pretty much the only argument against them is the cost, which is a bit strange, given how much revenue is lost when businesses can't operate for days at a time.
Oh PS. Devon's completely snow free, just really bloody cold.
Why do terrosists bother trying to smuggle bombs on to our planes? They could destroy this whole country's aviation industry with a sieve and some icing sugar.
We got tonnes in Nottingham, roads are pretty nasty.

Well last year Boris Johnson said, "I'm not going to spend millions on snow plows and gritters to prevent schools closing for one day a year, I don't think the tax payer would be very happy about it"
that is more snow than in my southern swedish town if you can believe that
I wish this country would man the fuck up.
We got this here in Essex.

Where is the snowbine harvester when you need it???

Anyway, got about 11cm here in East Sussex.
Those moments are both terrifying and awesome
for a dyspraxic like me its absolutely terrifying
Quite heavy snow in North London. It settled nicely. Two years ago when it snowed in December it took me 10 hours to drive back from Birmingham, normally a 2-3 hour drive.
East of Cambridge got about 6-8 Inches, college still open however while the one down the road is closed tomorrow :(
Surprisingly loads of it in the East Midlands. Hopefully it'll stay cold overnight and won't melt, then I won't have to go to sixth form tomorrow. (They're so scared of getting sued they'll close the place even if there's about 1mm of snow).
