Assassin's Creed 3 PC "will be less buggy than the console versions" at launch, DX11 and higher res

The upcoming PC version of Assassin's Creed 3 will launch with fewer bugs than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, Ubisoft has reassured.
A new patch is in the works to squash glitches on all versions. It will be the second title update for the game following a meaty patch available day-one.
The PC will launch with both of these patches included, Assassin's Creed 3 community man Gabe Graziani said during a Reddit developer Q&A.
"[The PC version] will include all of the console patches out at the time (so, that includes any patches we might be releasing in between now and PC launch). In addition, PC has a special patch designed to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible.
"We've added extra DX11 support for the PC version, so you'll notice some significant increases in texture resolution (double-res in most cases, but quadruple in some), tessellation (which is like, the new DX11 hotness) and some other shader improvements that will have an impact, but aren't all that sexy to enumerate in a Reddit post, hehe.
"I would say it will be less buggy than the console versions at console launch, but that the console and PC versions will be comparable at PC launch."
Details of the upcoming patch will follow in the next week or so, Graziani added. One fan-requested tweak that will be included is for Connor's hood to be raised post-game.
"We will be patching and tweaking for a while yet and soon enough we will be changing the end state of the game to be hood up!" creative director Alex Hutchinson confirmed.
Hutchinson also spoke out about claims of anti-British bias in Assassin's Creed 3, a concern among fans before the game launched - no doubt due to the heavy Redcoat-killing focus in the game's marketing.
"We started laughing then we were depressed as we realized nobody would believe [we weren't biased] until the game shipped," Hutchinson revealed.
"Then we felt validated when it did ship and most people noticed, then we were depressed again when we realised all the people who carried on about it before we shipped weren't going to say sorry. ;)"
tessellation is so awesome looking
tessellation is so awesome looking
except when it causes your computer to run at 11fps
I'm glad they added tessellation. A lot of devs just add DX11 as a buzzword with nothing but marginal performance increases without any visual improvement.

Well that's the point of newer API's, older API's like DX9 don't have proper support for modern (2006+) hardware, because it's ancient. Like Borderlands 2 has some poor CPU optimization because it's DX9
This is Ubisoft we're talking about.
Watch. Come release, it won't have any of these features.
The Brotherhood and Revelations PC ports were really well done. I'm optimistic.

Tesselation and HD textures will be seperate downloads you have to find and install.
wasn't sure if i should have picked up ac3 for ps3 before. decided to wait for the pc version, and i guess that was the right choice.

That's what I'm saying. They only use the new API for performance and don't ramp up the visuals.
The reason I'm not getting this for PC is because of one thing:
Uplay.

Oh no, god forbid they have an optional reward system. But seriously man, its like little extras you get just by getting some easy achievements. I don't see why that would have you not want to buy it.

I really have no clue why that's stopping you from buying it.

uPlay isn't all that bad. It's the only digital distribution platform I've seen where you can get what would ordinarily be paid content for free, just by playing the game.

There's nothing even wrong with Uplay. If anything I actually really like being able to earn points through unlocking achievements, and then being able to spend those points on extra content like you can in the previous games.
i hope it runs well, the console versions are making me nervous about it lighting my comp on fire
If your computer is no more than 5 years old, you should be fine.
I was honestly surprised that it was $50
Anyway it looks like my Thanksgiving is booked...

I bet you never even used any game with Uplay and you just assume it's another DRM like Origin or Steam.

It's weird that tessellation is supposedly catching on now, when it existed way the hell back in 2003 with the ATI R3x0 cores. You could tessellate entire scenes in OpenGL with nearly no performance impact.
Though you had to specifically design the models for the tessellation to work (telling which regions needed tessellation) or the entire model would get it and look fat. It's not really unlike the modern counterpart, you still have to design the world in a way where tessellation works and looks proper.
Nvidia had something similar on Geforce cards of the time, but both companies dropped both hardware and driver support for the feature. So if you want to use it now, you have to install one of the older drivers.
Glad that there is a bunch of extras. Had to get the console version though, didn't feel like waiting 3 weeks to play it.

I more grudge the fact that I have Steam, Origin, Uplay and GFWL all installed just to launch games... Steam is the only one of those which has more than 1 game too.

I mean Uplay is so horrible.
You play your game, get points, then you redeem content with said points.
So horrible scammy DRM man!!!
Like one time my internet connection went out when I wanted to play AssRev and I had to do it withouth my special edition included sword and thus I hate Ubisoft forever.

An example in tesselation.
why not OpenGL ;_;
Because the Scimitar/Anvil/NextAnvil engine has been on DX before.
The differences between DX9 and 10 aren't too noticeable. It's mostly in the shadows and ambient occlusion and slight lighting differences. 10 and 11 the difference is more noticeable, with bump mapping and tesselation being way more obvious than 9 or 10. Some video cards also perform better running in DX10, or 11, or even 9 but not the others even though they're supported. So it's nice to have the option. My card runs DX11 better than games that use 9
