According to BuzzFeed, the campaign encouraged supporters to bring hurricane relief supplies and “deliver the bags of canned goods, packages of diapers, and cases of water bottles to the candidate, who would be perched behind a table along with a slew of volunteers and his Ohio right-hand man, Senator Rob Portman.” Just to be safe, campaign aides reportedly spent $5,000 at a local Wal-Mart on supplies that could be put on display. When supporters arrived at the rally-turned-relief event, they were treated to the 10-minute video about Romney’s life, which was first unveiled at the RNC. The event ended with supporters lined up to hand over supplies and meet Romney. But according to BuzzFeed, this donation process was also staged:
Empty-handed supporters pled for entrance, with one woman asking, “What if we dropped off our donations up front?” The volunteer gestured toward a pile of groceries conveniently stacked near the candidate. “Just grab something,” he said. Two teenage boys retrieved a jar of peanut butter each, and got in line. When it was their turn, they handed their “donations” to Romney. He took them, smiled, and offered an earnest “Thank you.”
The Red Cross, meanwhile, said they were grateful for the supplies but encouraged people to donate money or blood as a more efficient way to help the relief effort. ============================================================ Source: http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/10/31/1115011/romney-campaign-staged-donations-in-storm-relief-event/?mobile=nc
This guy...

I did not realize it was possible to be THAT full of shit.
I did not realize it was possible to be THAT full of shit.
American politics.
Jesus.....just fuck these guys. I hope Obama landslides them in the election.
At least he tried
The Red Cross, meanwhile, said they were grateful for the supplies but encouraged people to donate money or blood as a more efficient way to help the relief effort.
Shit is bad when relief agencies are like "yeah no fuck food, send blood"
Romney and Apple, Two things/people Facepunch hates with a vengeance.
where's the proof? i could write the exact same article about pres. obama and every would just be slurpin' that shit up - i know facepunch is biased but c'mon...word of mouth ain't proof
Shit is bad when relief agencies are like "yeah no fuck food, send blood"
it's more because they have to do alot of shit with donated food & clothes & supplies. with money they can just provide it themselves, and the red cross always needs more blood
Romney and Apple, Two things/people Facepunch hates with a vengeance.
I hate Romney far more than I hate Apple. Apple is wealthy and massively powerful, but at least they don't pretty much directly control the country. A psychopath like Romney though is a threat to everything living.
Can I get a source that isn't thinkprogress?
You'd almost have to go out of your way to do that.
Another source. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/election-2012/wp/2012/10/31/romney-makes-personal-donation-to-red-cross/
TAMPA — Mitt Romney has been urging supporters to donate money to the American Red Cross to help fund storm relief efforts, and on Wednesday an aide disclosed that the Republican presidential nominee has made a donation himself. The aide declined to disclose the amount of the donation. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Romney canceled his campaign events on Tuesday, instead staging a “storm relief event” in Kettering, Ohio. The nominee joined about 2,000 supporters to help pack supplies such as canned goods, rice and diapers. “The American Red Cross appreciates the support from the Romney campaign and is working with the campaign to process this donation of supplies,” the relief agency said in a statement. “We are grateful that both the Obama and Romney campaigns have also encouraged the public to send financial donations to the Red Cross. We encourage individuals who want to help to consider making a financial donation or making an appointment to give blood.” The organization generally “does not accept or solicit individual donations or collections of items,” according to its Web site, because dealing with incoming supplies “impedes the valuable resources of money, time, and personnel.”
He's at least trying, cut him some slack.
Did he know that they hadn't actually purchased those donations? It sounds like some co-ordinators running the event just told them to grab something from the pile just so they could meet Romney. It's never mentioned if he was aware this was going on. I'm not a Romney guy, but I need a bit more than that.
I really wish I wasn't bigoted in the sense that I want to punch every fucking person who wants to support Romney. I want to understand why someone would vote for him, except if you're rich or under-aged or homeless. I'm looking for something to go on, to prove to myself "Enh, he ain't so bad." but all I see is crap like this, and other shit that makes middle class look like a joke. I'm scared to become an actual working adult because I'm resting my fate in the hands of people who can't seem to run a campaign without accidentally fucking everything up. Time to build shit on Mars and move out, get a counsel of people like Star-Wars or some shit and set up shop elsewhere, Earth is kinda crappy, and I'm not sure what makes me thing that moving out to another planet is going to be any better.
Ok, have fun on Mars.
Have fun on Earth when we're run by even bigger liars than we have now. I say we have about 20 years until shit around here in America becomes really ugly.
Reminds me of when Paul Ryan busted into a soup kitchen to get some photos of him "cleaning" already clean dishes.
That's pretty disgusting, whether Romney or his campaign team were behind it.
I have a feeling that, just like Osama's pre-election video in 2004 securing Bush's second term, Hurricane Sandy has done the same for Obama I'm okay with this
Reminds me of when Paul Ryan busted into a soup kitchen to get some photos of him "cleaning" already clean dishes.
ryan actually did clean dishes; the whole debacle was dumb as hell http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/10/16/14485409-ryan-did-wash-dirty-dishes-during-soup-kitchen-visit?lite
I really wish I wasn't bigoted in the sense that I want to punch every fucking person who wants to support Romney. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is sitting on $5 Million, waiting for someone to answer his cry for attention.
i guarantee with every ounce of my being that Romney is more intelligent than you and so are a large % of his voters - please do go to mars
Might be more intelligent but they sure seem far more ignorant than most.
Awesome, the one thing we needed was a last minute blitz of news about Romney being completely full of shit. Filming people donating groceries that the campaign bought and handed to them five minutes ago, while our actual president is out trying to solve problems. Absolutely perfect.
That's pretty disgusting, whether Romney or his campaign team were behind it.
Really?? As long as the food and supplies get to people who need it, who really gives a shit where and how they were donated? If you were in the northeast, and your home was destroyed, would you turn away food and clothes because they were used in a political stunt long before they reached you?
Nice source
Pleeeeeeeeeeeease don't let this DUMBASS win, if Romney wins I seriously don't know what I'll do..

But that's not exactly the problem here - if this is true, it's the sickest stunt possible.
