• Stolen Valor: Veteran in Philly mall films himself calling out a fake veteran in military uniform

It's a video, in the link. Apparently this guy was walking around in the mall in a fake uniform for the military discounts many stores offer to vets. http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/us/2014/12/06/smerconish-veteran-says-he-called-out-phony-soldier.cnn.html
Totally disrespectful to the real people who fight for their country. Running around in a uniform with medals you did not earn and then cashing in on what little benefits they get. Pretty sick. I don't think theres too much wrong with people wearing a uniform for cosplay, but when you suddenly declare your in the military, that's so sickening. But at least they are wearing the uniform unlike the uk which now tells it's soldiers to not wear uniform outside of military bases for fear that the growing muslim extremists might attack them.
Good on the guy who called him out. He had no idea what to do when confronted.
He was doing it for financial reasons, that counts as a crime doesn't it? I know they gutted the Stolen Valor Act last year, so I don't know if what he's doing is still illegal.
Snip
Could have sworn this video was a few years old, but I guess not. Cancerous comments defending the guy.
How much even is a military discount?
as critical as I am about the military this right here makes me sick. He deserves to legally have the shit kicked out of him by the real soldier.
How much even is a military discount?
Depends on the store. Some places go up to 30% from what I've seen.
Depends on the store. Some places go up to 30% from what I've seen.
I get like %10 off at movies and on base. Just saving a couple cents nothing drastically different.
Stolen Valor is a crime.
Last year the law got gutted and now only applies to very specific cases. I don't know if pretending to be a soldier to get discounts is actually a crime anymore.
It should be. Congress would gut a just law.
Why exactly should stolen valor be illegal ? It's a dick move, sure, but you can't outlaw something because it's a dick move. I'm also pretty sure lying about your identity to obtain any favor from anyone is already a crime in itself.

The act of impersonating a soldier itself it pretty detestable, but can someone remind me why serving in the armed forces gets you a discount? Why aren't there discounts for miners or policemen, or doctors, or firemen, or fucking window cleaners?

Or firemen, that forgo their safety so they can get people out of blazing infernos? I'm pretty sure PTSD is well documented in jobs other than military ones as well.

I think the military discount thing is a mostly American thing though, i've not seen it as overt here in the UK/EU as it is in the USA.
Doctors and window cleaners don't sign up for their jobs with the knowledge they might get shot in the face for acting on behalf of their country.
Policemen do. Is there a LEO discount?
Policemen do. Is there a LEO discount?
what the fuck are you even arguing for?
Policemen do. Is there a LEO discount?
Yes there is?
Policemen do. Is there a LEO discount?
Yeah actually.
This isn't something worth getting outraged about, IMO. I was at the movie theater and a firefighter said "do firefighters get discounts?" I said "no, but I can just make one up" so I didn't charge him for like, half his order. Yeah this made news here a bit ago, they already got the guy and he was caught a few years back impersonating a cop to get money if i remember correctly.
unlike the uk which now tells it's soldiers to not wear uniform outside of military bases for fear that the growing muslim extremists might attack them.
Seriously? It's that bad over there? :pwn:
So what's the evidence that the guy was a phony. I'm not doubting it, but what gave him away?
[sp]We haven't been in a war to "fight for our country" in 70 years[/sp]
The edge is too much. Even if we haven't, that's not the soldiers fault. Also I never said for our country, I said on behalf. They're putting their lives on the lines for the countries interests no matter what you want to claim.
So what's the evidence that the guy was a phony. I'm not doubting it, but what gave him away?
11 bravo is basic infantry. Not specialized like a Ranger. He claims to have 3 badges from the same conflict, but the guy taking the video says you need to be in different campaigns to get more than one.
