[quote]Microsoft on Friday announced the availability of 3D Builder, the software giant's first 3D printing application making use of a new 3D printing pipeline built into the Windows 8.1 update. The app is free and currently available in the Windows Store. Microsoft is also selling MakerBot 3D printers through its online stores for a one-stop shopping solution to your 3D printing needs. Microsoft's 3D Builder includes a library of 3D printable objects, including "decorations, toys, jewelry, and more items that people can customize and adapt in minutes before printing them in 3D," the company said. I should have just stayed out of this thread altogether.
This is sweeeeeet!
I'm so glad I didn't sell my 3D printer. Printing things in 3D with my 3D printer is pretty rad.

Ew makerbot overpriced with a borked extruder
I have access to replicator 2s and a 2x, and seeing 8.1 support 3d printing is nice though makerware is limited compared cura in some regards still gives more choices then the windows software. You do need more control in your 3d printing software due to 3d printing being not so simple so I won't be using this software in it's current stage, but windows is going in the right direction with this support.
My friend in university had a 3D printer. His roommate got a hold of his PC password and kept printing out dildoes while he was out of the room doing classes and such. He eventually caught him but he used like £12 worth of plastic just printing out dildoes as a joke.
Cura for fancy stls that need scaling and translation Slic3r for SO MANY OPTIONS And if anyone is wondering I dislike the replicator because it is sold with a faulty extruder that has filament grip problems. Easily fixed with a printed piece and a spring though, plus a few bolts Sounds simple right? Yeah, you would think makerbot would make it a standard option and fix their mistakes. But no, they still sell the $8 parts kit on their website seperate of the printer What the hell? Its just $8 on a 2200 buck overpriced machine, fix pls. but no
"Hey Chrome. Print THIS!" or something
