Nothing says sci-fi like a bezel-less screen, and Xiaomi’s newly announced Mi Mix Android phablet is very sci-fi with its 91.3 percent screen-to-body ratio. This 6.4-inch device has just been announced as a concept phone by the Chinese company, but weirdly enough, it has a price, ¥3,499 ($516), and a release date of November 4th in its home country.
Think of every out-there spec you could cram into a phone and the Xiaomi Mi Mix probably has it. The rear of this handset and its side buttons are both made out of ceramic. The display is curved at the corners — just like that Sharp prototype we recently saw — and all the top-mounted sensors have been removed. The proximity sensor has been replaced by ultrasound, the earpiece has been replaced with a piezoelectric speaker that uses the metal frame to generate sound, and the front-facing camera is relocated to the bottom (though the phone can thankfully be rotated upside down for more flattering selfies).
Inside, the Mi Mix has the latest Snapdragon 821 chip that powers Google’s Pixels, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Looking at the status bar above, the Mi Mix seems to also have support for two SIMs, a popular feature in China, and Xiaomi also notes it has a 192Hz / 24-bit DAC chip for higher-resolution audio. There’ll also be a ¥3,999 ($590) option with 6GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and 18-karat gold accents around the camera and fingerprint sensor on the rear of the Mix. The battery weighs in at a generous 4,400mAh, the rear camera comes in at 16 megapixels with phase-detect autofocus, and yes, the headphone jack is intact ("for now," as Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra jokes on Facebook).
I want one. Too bad it probably won't work in Verizon
A steal for $590 with what it has to offer.
I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, great phone. This will probably be a solid device.

Is Verizon really that big of a hitler that the SIM only works in Verizon phones?
I want one. Too bad it probably won't work in Verizon
My Xiaomi would technically work with Verizon as in the hardware is there, but Verizon refused to play ball. I called them to tell them about my phone not working, and they said I could go into the store and get a new SIM card. Then they told me in the store that the phone's IMEI is too short and was nonstandard so it couldn't work. (It was exactly the same length and format as every other phone.) Then they signed us up for Verizon FIOS without our permission.
We switched to a different service provider and it worked immediately, though.
So who knows maybe if you fuck with them enough they'll be forced to do it.
That's a sleek as fuck looking phone, think I'll have to buy one eventually

Why? What's the point of moving it there?
Am I seriously the only one who likes some bezel?
It keeps me from accidentally bumping the screen while reading one-handed.
Like the whole samsung edge thing with the curve at each side? The only way that could possibly be worse is if they made the phone literally explode at ran-oh...

Is this a serious question?

There's palm rejection. I've used my friend's S7 Edge and it was never an issue.
Even if bezelless phones are bad for productivity, a phone that looks like that is going to appeal heavily to the average consumer because it looks so next generation and premium.
Just look at every fake "EARLY IPHONE # LEAKED IMAGES" and it's always bezelless or something because it's what's going to turn the most heads.
no bezel just looks weird.
Looks fine, we're just not used to it

Exactly. I know that this phone is going to be sexy and appeal to people to are easily amused by gimmicks, but make no mistake that this lack of bezels will just be a massive usability nightmare. Even with the best palm rejection in the world you're still going to have to consistently be aware of how you hold it.

I'd probably just buy a case like always which would handle that for me.
I cant wait to poke the side of the phone and watch it shatter
no bezel just looks weird.
I like it, even though I hate TVs with no bezel.
How would a case even work on this
It looks fucking sexy imo. I'm in the market for a new phone, I'll have to look into getting one if they actually release it.
I want to know what kind of ceramic they're using as well as what display glass they're using.
Almost all of these thinner and bezelless screens sacrifice durability for ~aesthetic~.
Best thing out of Xiaomi is their cheap as fuck powerbanks

Xiaomi in general is doing really well right now and I really hope they turn into an even bigger brand to stand next to other mainstream devices.
No microSD sucks but 128gb internal sort of makes up for it

I can't wait until people realize that the glass isn't that fragile like it was a few years ago (or today in the hands of not so caring people)

How much do people even use? I still have a 16 GB iPhone but i only hit my limit with Spotify and playing larger 3D games such as GTA, photos and videos are automatically removed and put into iCloud

I can't really see the appeal in carrying around dozens of HD quality films and TV show episodes on a device the size of a phone. If you want to watch stuff whilst commuting you've still got to hold that somewhat up to your face to watch it decently. Shits not comfortable after a while.
128GB should be more than enough for any person to not need a SD slot, 64GB is certainly more than the average user will use at least. And feature additions like this are decided on the average usage, not the outliers after all.
I have a lot of music in FLAC format. That takes up a lot of space. It's not even my full collection either

I generally like 64GB as the minimum for total storage (I would like to keep my entire music library on my phone) plus apps, photos and videos.
Pretty impressive, but it's not even close irl to the promotional renders in terms of the bezels.

Shame we won't be seeing them too much in the west thanks to silly copyright/patent laws
but it's always a neat little ~nerd thing~ to be able to order these since they are willing to play ball with the bands
Looks nice, I am seeing a lot of chinese phones on Ebay but not sure if they are actually any good?
