Literally all there is right now.
Update:
The soldier is reported to have been attacked with a knife and his assailant seriously injured.
The attacker is said to have been trying to enter the museum. A big security operation is reported to be under way at the Louvre and a nearby shopping centre.
Update:
A source quoted by Reuters news agency said the man had tried to get into the museum's underground shop carrying a suitcase.
The interior ministry described the incident as "serious".
Update:
The Louvre has been evacuated.
Details of the incident are still emerging. A French police spokesman said the attacker shouted "Allahu Akbar" - God is great in Arabic - but was not carrying explosives.
Reports say the attacker was carrying one, possibly two suitcases.
Another says he wore a rucksack and carried a machete.
So yeah, nothing too serious so far.
Paris just can't take a break, can it?

Weird. What sort of a dunce runs at a guy with a gun, swinging a knife around?
The bayonet charge went out of fashion hundreds of years ago.
Any suspicions of mental health problems?
Did the operation begin because of the attack or was it already started?

5 bucks on islam
It's over already, calm down
The guy had two machetes and two backpacks, and tried to enter the Carroussel; he attacked the millitary trying to stop him from entering, while shouting the allahu akbar thing.
One millitary received a minor injury in the head. As an answer, they shot the bad guy five times including one shot in the belly. Bad guy is neutralized but still alive, for now.
Backpacks have been examined and nothing suspicious is inside.

Sounds like there's some sort of mental illness involved.
great, another terrorist

Grasping at straws.
So many people asking about mental health but ignoring the obvious.
Plain and simple religious extremism.

I'm not a part of the 'There is no problem with islam' crowd. But the idea that you'd run at an armed guard with a knife for no discernible purpose, strikes me as the act of a loony, more than the act of a brainwashed person.
Im atleast glad that no civilians were injured and that only one policeman had minor injures. Hope that whatever the hell this attacker was doing is that he gets put away.
only concrete thing i'm getting out of this is that some guy got shot

I'm amazed he's still alive

Well, out of fashion in the sense that i'ts nobody's go-to tactic anymore.

whats the difference between that and blowing yourself up in a crowd of innocent civilians though?
theyre both extremist actions

Actually the British military made bayonet charges in the Falklands. In 2004 a Scottish military unit did a bayonet charge against over a hundred Iraqi army insurgents. The Scottish unit suffered no deaths.

That sounds badass as fuck

can we stop with these kind of posts

Indeed they both are, but this one sounds way less organised and properly thought than what you compare it to.
That's why i go with the 'crazy loony' option. I don't think he's part of anything 'serious'. He might as well be the average crazy person you see on the subway everyday around Paris, he just seriously lost it this time though. I don't think he fits the brainwashed islamic extremist category, and i'm waiting for any news to confirm this.

It's not too out there, considering we had at least one girl attack a police officer here in Germany with a knife due to organised islamist motives (unfortunately far more successfully in that case, if I remember correctly).
You're right though that this could go either way, and it's always prudent to wait until at least some more information is properly available.
can we stop with these kind of posts
no
Why wasn't the attacker killed? Then what's the purpose of soldiers guarding.
can we stop with these kind of posts
why
Why wasn't the attacker killed? Then what's the purpose of soldiers guarding.
No, their purpose is to keep things safe. Disabling the attacker is also keeping it safe.

Because you need all the intel he might have, including if he is part of a terrorist cell or who recruited him to do it.
