It has now surpassed Cameron's "Titanic," which previously held the record with $1.84 billion, and is on its way to break the $2 billion mark. "Avatar" has also become the highest grossing film internationally, but is still trailing "Titanic" domestically by around $45 million. It is expected that the domestic record will be broken within two weeks. Not to take away from what "Avatar" has accomplished, but the record doesn't account for inflation or the higher ticket prices for 3D and IMAX theaters. But that doesn't matter for 20th Century Fox, which is said to take in $918 million in profits before Cameron gets his cut. Who would of thought the world would respond to sexy blue aliens.
Who would of thought the world would respond to sexy blue aliens.
I have highlighted what is wrong with your post.
Holy fuck? It's been out for 5 weeks now?
And the world keeps spinning
And I haven't even seen it and don't really want to. I'd rather see District 9.
And I haven't even seen it and don't really want to. I'd rather see District 9.
Why not
When avatar 2 comes out it's going to be like episode one. But nerds would come to the theater dressed up as blue cat people instead of Jedi.
Great, now james cameron can masturbate even more furiously to the thought of himself. I'll bet he jizzes in his pants whenever someone buys a ticket to Avatar. But seriously the movie was awesome in 3D.
Well, it is a good movie, what do you expect?

It is stupid anyone is excited over this, the only reason Titanic would ever be beat is because inflation has made the ticket prices ALOT higher thus greater profit. Titanic would be miles ahead of Avatar if they adjusted Titanic's sales to the same price Avatar is at.

But thats just according to my film buff pal and who knows.

Making Pocahontas in 3D with Blue indians was a success apparently.
Making Pocahontas in 3D with Blue indians was a success apparently.
You do realize that Pocahontas was just a retelling of the Lewis & Clark thing, and that she was an actual person, right? You do realize that Disney cannot patent historical events, right? Basing your work on actual history is now a ripoff? lolright
It was only a matter of time!
I guess this is proof that James Cameron has the film industry in his pocket.

You can ride that argument all you want, except Avatar accomplished this in a FRACTION of the time it took Titanic to reach that monetary point, and it's still continually #1 at the box office.
Oh god, don't tell me that in the future avatar will be a classic

It's wonderful. A film with so many subliminal messages and packed with propaganda beats out everyone else. Sad, actually. It's not possible to make a decent movie anymore without shoving politics down the viewer's throat.

I don't get it, what is so awesome about Avatar? Is it 3D? If so, is it really that different from those red blue glasses ones?
I don't get it, what is so awesome about Avatar? Is it 3D? If so, is it really that different from those red blue glasses ones?
It's just a visual orgasm, that's it. Basic story (that everyone seems to think is TERRIBLE for some reason, when most movies don't have an original story anyways) but the CGI and whatnot is what made it great. Unlike movies that were made for regular movie-goers and transformed into 3D for those weird people who like that kind of thing, Avatar managed to actually incorporate 3D into the movie itself, making it really neat to watch. Honestly, I don't see what's so OMAGAW amazing about it, but I guess it takes James Cameron to beat James Cameron, so... :| Congrats to him, I guess.
They should convert the currency of Titanic. Back in those days, little amounts of money were worth something and now these days, its worth shit. So Titanic is still in the lead in my books

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and The Godfather and various Tarantino films are still better in my opinion.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and The Godfather and various Tarantino films are still better in my opinion.
The youth of today don't understand those films. To get people to watch a movie today you need; 1. Super awesome 10 billion dollar special effects 2. Sex 3. At least one scene where there are explosions all over the place and you can't understand what the hell is going on. And bam, you have a modern day blockbuster movie. No matter how bad the story or action is, as long as there are explosions and sex people will watch it. I miss the days when movies weren't like this.
