Hello facepunch! I have been wanting a bike [b]FOREVER[/B] now and I have a few questions about what kind to get and all that crap. First i've noticed that the Kawasaki ninjas are carbureted, and i wanted to know, since it's a motorcycle and not a car, if it makes a difference... Second, i'm like 5' 4 and like 130lbs. was wondering if a Kawasaki ninja 650 would be a good bike due to my size. I've also looked at Honda CBRs and suzuki GSXRs. Third, I was suggested to start on a 250cc, but it was by a dealer so I dont give a fuck what he says. I know i'd get bored [b]REALY[/b] fast of a 250cc, also I plan to race this beast after I throw some cash into it. Lastly, new or used?
It's not a question of whether you get bored, it's a question of whether you're going to survive. 250cc-600cc is the sort of displacement you're looking for with 2 cylinders, which is a very important detail. You don't want to be caught off guard by a sudden burst of power as you reach power band while going round a corner. And if you really do intend on racing this early into your riding career I hope you have some good leathers.
If you're riding on the roads a 250 will you get you to max speed and beyond easily(in Australia I know this for certain). If you're planning on racing, make sure you invest in full protective gear. I started on a 250 and I loved it, rode it for 3 years. Yeah there are some times you wish your bike could perform better but it's pretty rare, it will generally outperform any car you see on the road so that should honestly be plenty of power to learn on. Don't worry about bikes with carburetors. Heaps of bikes have them.

I talked to a few people, they said after taking the course and shit for the endorsement, a 650 would be ride-able. I've also heard about the people who lose control on a turn with them though. which also threw doubt into my mind, cause i dont wanna pull off the lot and drop that shit instantly. and i'm gonna wait till about a month after regular riding to try and race it. maybe 2. but for my body build, what bike do you think would suit me?
What kind of experience do you have in motorsports? How long have you been driving? What have you driven? Can you drive manual?
been driving a 50cc pos for like 3 months, and it suck. its just not enough. i wanna hold on for dear life when i hit the throttle... so yeah. and ive had me drivers license for like 3 years.

[sp] Tho it is fun too, just do it responsibly preferably on trackdays [/sp]

I talked to a few people and they said that a ninja 650r is a good bike to start out with.

You are going to be paying insurance out the wazoo for a displacement that large, insurance companies are guessing that you will wreck it within the first year of ownership. A 650 can do 0-60 in about 3.8 seconds, that's supercar territory, and INCREDIBLY fast. A 250 will do it in about 6-7 seconds, which is sports car territory, use way less fuel, and your insurance premiums will be way less.

[editline]25th September 2012[/editline] Top speed for a 250 is 110, right? also, its roughly 5.75 for 0-60 [editline]25th September 2012[/editline] idk, going any faster would be attempt at suicide i guess... 250cc it is then.. [editline]25th September 2012[/editline] Also i would hang myself if i slipped on a turn and dropped my bike.. PLUS! I can doll it up more. Now, I ask you facepunch, Red, black or green? I was thinking green, I'll stand out more to cause less of a chance to get hit.

I want to get black because a blacked out motorcycle is sex in my eyes
top end for a 250 ninja is right at 95 mph with an average rider. some claim 100+ but i dout they are stock. plus the speedos read fast at 80+ i have seen a friend of mine do a 170mph on a bike but gps read in the 150s....
Honestly if you're buying a bike to look cool and go fast just buy whatever you want because you're not going to last long. If you're buying because you enjoy riding, then stick with that 250 or a 500.

There are only two kinds of motorcyclists: those who've dropped their bike and those who WILL drop their bike. That's why it's even better to start out on a 250 because it's lighter and easier to handle, and repairing it won't be as expensive if you drop it.
