What is the SCA?
"The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our "Known World" consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which feature tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, various classes & workshops, and more." http://www.sca.org/
Pretty much, it's a huge group of people around the world dedicated to keeping the music, food, culture and war of the 600AD to 1600AD medieval time period alive. One of the biggest parts of the SCA is recreational battle. Men and woman train in their spare time all year with real armor and bamboo weapons in order to compete in tournaments and giant 1000+ man field battles, which are probably some of the most badass recreational battles ever. It's not larping, but pure recreation of the sword-fighting art. Pennsic War (located in Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh), to my knowledge, is the biggest SCA event in the United States. It gets around 12k-15k heads a year, with people coming from all over the globe. I, personally, was born into the SCA, my parents having met at a previous pennsic, and have been going ever year I've been alive. So, any of your nerds going to Pennsic this year?
I wonder if in 400 years people will dress up like we do now

its larping
- I hit you! - No you didn't!! - Yes I did!! - No you didn't!! etc.
That rarely happens, but when it does, those fighters are shunned by the society.
I wonder if in 400 years people will dress up like we do now
I don't doubt it.
its larping
This. LARP = Live Action Roleplay. You're roleplaying soldiers from (whatever year the battles are supposed to be in)
This. LARP = Live Action Roleplay. You're roleplaying soldiers from (whatever year the battles are supposed to be in)
Ok, I'll hand it to ya. It's LARPing in it's own way. Much cooler, though, imo.
You're saying LARP is cooler than LARP? lol
I'm saying recreational larping with giant 1000+ man field battles and castle sieges are much cooler then a group of nerds flinging lightbolts in their backyard. :P
Cardboard box castles?
Well, probably a kind of cheap wood, but not cardboard.
Well, probably a kind of cheap wood, but not cardboard.
Oh, really realistic! I love how it looks like a fucking rainbow is assaulting a 10-foot wall with assorted weapons.
What the hell
Oh, really realistic! I love how it looks like a fucking rainbow is assaulting a 10-foot wall with assorted weapons.
You're just jealous ◕‿◕ But seriously though. Anyone from facepunch going? With 13k+ people expected this year I can't be the only one that comes to this site and is going.

XXXVIIII You mean IXL? Also, here's how to be cooler than LARP: 1) Build a massive castle 2) Get shitloads of horses 3) Get fucktons of armor 4) Rent a small nation 5) Recreate this: Or pretty much any organized fight. From what I've seen in the video it's more a clusterfuck than a war. But those roman guys were pretty rad.

It would look more badass if people actually died
typo, hurpdurp, etc.
XXXVIIII You mean IXL? But still pretty awesome, im not a fan of LOTR but the battles were pretty cool
I don't think so. Imma stick to mah DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS :science: /caps [editline]12:51PM[/editline] Anywho, on a more serious note, This kinda seems a bit gay to me.
Looking at the videos this is less LARP than a re-enactment of medieval battles. Every year where I live there's a medieval festival - Just a couple of weeks ago, actually. A huge battle took place here so it's a big annual event. At this festival there's tents, selling medieval crafts, food (well, not REALLY medieval food) and general medieval-themed stalls. There's also a re-enactment of the original battle. My dogs hate the cannons.
I first read the thread title as "Penis". Anyone else? Edit: Looks cool, tho. Although its not as brutally accurate as experimental archeology.
