Please wait patiently a bit longer,” tweeted Kento Suga, a marketing manager in the Asian region for Niantic Inc., which developed “Pokemon Go” with Nintendo Co. and The Pokemon Company. That was on July 6, the day the title stampeded into three of the four other countries. Many Twitter users responded angrily. “I can’t wait,” blurted out user @Pokeemon_. User @aeguev said: “How long is ‘a bit longer’? How many weeks, how many months? I envy my friends who live abroad.” “The release date is still uncertain,” a Pokemon Company spokeswoman told The Japan Times on Wednesday. However, the popular blog Pokemon Go Asia reported the same day that “Pokemon Go” is “finally set to be rolled out in Asia within the next 48 hours.” This forecast appeared to be based on the fact that “the iOS App Store refreshes every Thursday globally,” and “servers have been strengthening the past few days, increasing load capacity.”
Color me surprised. I figured that'd be the very first country where the game came out... [editline]14th July 2016[/editline] A friend of mine lives in Japan, and he showed a screenshot... it's a barren wasteland. :v:
That's.. huh. Probably the first time japan got something Pokémon-related after US and EU.
That's fucked. Whole game works in Japanese because I'm a faggot and have my phone set to that so it's not even like Niantic were waiting on translation.
My friend's screenshot in Japan: He caught a Squirtle in the tutorial, and that was it. :v:
but i thought it's coming soon in asia in like a few days
Now think how the Microsoft windows phone users feel... ughhh Nintendo make em release it already....
They're prepping the mortuaries to handle the influx of people who will inevitably be stampeded in Tokyo by mobs hunting down Pikachu.
Don't they already have real Pokemon though?
They're prepping the mortuaries to handle the influx of people who will inevitably be stampeded in Tokyo by mobs hunting down Pikachu.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone got gravely injured hunting for Pokémon at Shibuya Crossing, at least.
I imagine getting Japan working will take longer, seeing as how it's so densely packed.
I keep taunting my cousin in Japan with my Pokemon Go screenshots he hates it
why not just spoof your gps location and prentend you're on holiday? (it's been done)
My friend's screenshot in Japan: He caught a Squirtle in the tutorial, and that was it. :v:
Same, thought my phone was busted.
why not just spoof your gps location and prentend you're on holiday? (it's been done)
Some people have reported it's not working properly, while others have been caught by an anti cheat system, which prevents you from catching new pokemon.
I'm also still waiting for an official release here in the Netherlands, which is weird because everything works already through the APK. Why not just release it?
I'm also still waiting for an official release here in the Netherlands, which is weird because everything works already through the APK. Why not just release it?
Server issues
I'm also still waiting for an official release here in the Netherlands, which is weird because everything works already through the APK.
I imagine getting Japan working will take longer, seeing as how it's so densely packed.
No they don't, Pokemon Go uses existing metadata from ingress (All those gyms and pokestop are user submitted portals, wild pokemon spawning location is tied to XM generation). All niantic needs is servers to handle the load
Well for me in Australia as soon as it reaches like after nine o'clock the servers get fucked because of all the Americans coming on so they're still obviously working on it.
why not just spoof your gps location and prentend you're on holiday? (it's been done)
If you do manage to get that working, prepare to be fucking killed by people who scream that it's absolutely worse than being Hitler.
That's fucked. Whole game works in Japanese because I'm a faggot and have my phone set to that so it's not even like Niantic were waiting on translation.
Might I ask why? Literally just curious, you trying to learn Japanese or something?
why not just spoof your gps location and prentend you're on holiday? (it's been done)
Spoofing makes you worse than Hitler.
Might I ask why?
Now think how the Microsoft windows phone users feel... ughhh Nintendo make em release it already....
I bought a new phone because my wife was embarrassed to be seen with me when she was playing pokemon. Also, I heard that the Ingress people were pretty good at banning people who spoofed their GPS.
I was fairly certain POkemon Go was already released in Japan, hell I think they were the first ones to get it
I was fairly certain POkemon Go was already released in Japan, hell I think they were the first ones to get it
Nope. We were the first to get the closed BETA. It's in the English app store here but even if you find a way to install it, no servers. :mystery: Also, the Pokemon Go website doesn't have asolid release date either.
dont worry we know how it feels
My friend's screenshot in Japan: He caught a Squirtle in the tutorial, and that was it. :v:
Did Ingress ever catch on? If not, that would explain part of it (but not the missing Pokémon I think).
Did Ingress ever catch on? If not, that would explain part of it (but not the missing Pokémon I think).
Ingress is pretty popular but its also a niche game because of how difficult and complicated it is/can be.
That's fucked. Whole game works in Japanese because I'm a faggot and have my phone set to that so it's not even like Niantic were waiting on translation.
Android apps are set up to be particularly easy to translate due to the IDE nagging you to keep all the displayed strings in your application in a separate text file which can easily be swapped for another set of strings for different languages. Niantic is an English-speaking company and based their 'pokestops' off of landmarks submitted for their Ingress app, which I presume wasn't particularly popular outside of likewise English-speaking countries. They probably have to set up a ton of pokestops in Japan manually before they can release it in a state that people can actually play in. Also of note, pokemon in Japan would probably be somewhat sparse for the first few weeks of play compared to other areas due to a lack of locational data to determine spawn points. Exotic Matter in Ingress tended to spawn in places where people had often traveled with the app on, and it seems that the algorithms for pokemon spawns work similarly. All in all, they really didn't think it would blow up the way it did. Everything points to this having been a little side project that grew way out of proportion and went viral.
Now think how the Microsoft windows phone users feel... ughhh Nintendo make em release it already....
windows phone population is way smaller than japan lol
