• NJ Gov. Chris Christie and former House Speaker Newt Gringrich vetted finalists for Trump's VP
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich are among the finalists to be Donald Trump's running mate, sources confirmed to CNN on Thursday. Christie -- a former Trump rival turned top defender -- has received the official paperwork for the vetting process, according to a source with knowledge of events. And Gingrich is being "seriously considered" for the job, a Trump adviser said. Trump has said he intends to announce his vice presidential nominee at the Republican National Convention in July in Cleveland. In choosing either Christie and Gingrich, Trump would satisfy his desire for someone with political experience who could help him advance his legislative agenda through Congress. The New York Times was first to report Christie's vetting. The Washington Post reported Thursday evening that Gingrich was also being vetted, with Sens. Jeff Sessions, R-Alabama, and Bob Corker, R-Tennessee, also emerging as final contenders, but a source very close to the campaign said the Post's report was inaccurate. The source added, however, that a surprise choice could also be in store.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/30/politics/chris-christie-donald-trump-vp-vetting/index.html Just a reminder that Gringrich wants to bring back McCarthyism while 46% of New Jersey residents hate him with Trump (not to mention he has only a 26% approval rating in the state.)
Eugh. If you so much as mention Christie in a conversation in New Jersey there's audible groans and jeers from all involved. If he ends up as Trump's running mate I'd almost guarantee NJ would go against Trump.
I can totally see Trump going "I know you're my lapdog Chris, but I'm going to go for Newt Gingrich."
I don't know about the other guy but Newt is just pure slime
The bottom-of-the-barrel isn't doing Trump any favors today.
Usually candidates pick popular politicians in swing/moderate states, to guarantee that they'll help deliver that important state to them. Christie is hated. It would have the exact opposite effect and make Trump lose New Jersey even more than he already will.
Even as someone voting for Trump, can't say I'd support either of these choices. What benefit does he even get out of picking them? They'll only drag him down, if anything.
Not very good picks imo
Even as someone voting for Trump, can't say I'd support either of these choices. What benefit does he even get out of picking them? Gingrich supported him from the start and Christie has jumped head over heels to support him since his drop out. Personally I think it'll be Christie. The intensity of his attacks on Trump followed up by a complete 180 to supporting him beyond belief within a couple of weeks was too staggering to NOT believe he wasn't promised something in return. And everyone knows that a VP running for the next presidency always has a decent chance.
Didn't Mr. Gringrich ask for a new HUAC recently?
I remember Newt from last elections. This one video in particular stayed with me for some reason:
christie becoming trump's vp is shit I would've said was overdone in a comedy movie, what the fuck is life anymore
Newt is literally human fecal matter.
Pick newt, it'll make it easier for clinton to win
As a citizen of NJ I apologize on behalf of my state for allowing Christie to run free in the rest of country and bring our butt of the joke reputation even lower.
I like how Trump is supposedly a candidate of the people, but all of his potential running mates are political slimeballs.
Christie would be one of the worst possible VP picks since Sarah Palin. They've got quite a bit in common. Palin and Christie have anomalously low favorability ratings for people with significant name recognition. Christie's has plummeted since he actually ran in the primaries - his current favorability ratings are almost half unfavorable. Palin actually had significantly better favorability ratings than Christie with conservative Republicans at +45. Christie's only got +5, though he's higher with moderate Republicans - but still crazy low. If Trump picks Christie as VP, he'll crash and burn almost as fast as McCain, especially if Clinton picks a solid VP like Julian Castro to secure the Hispanic vote. Considering Christie's the only guy who's been confirmed to be in the vetting process, it seems at least somewhat likely that he could end up as Trump's running-mate. He's an un-charismatic schmuck who's despised in his own state with some of the lowest net favorability ratings out of every VP pick that Trump's been floating. It would be disastrous. I hope he picks him. [editline]1st July 2016[/editline]
I like how Trump is supposedly a candidate of the people, but all of his potential running mates are political slimeballs.
He doesn't care about political honesty - he cares about who scratched his back the most. Almost all his VP picks have been people who have done him favors. Christie bent over backwards to campaign for Trump, and Gingrich has been supporting Trump since the minute his campaign began. No concern for quality or respect among the US populace - just whoever gave him the best compliments. Very reflective of his narcissism.
Crisp Krispy is fucking gross and his security policies are that of an overprotective parent I don't like Gingritch either Trump for the love of god please balance the ticket
Gingrich is just pure toxic waste. He keeps going on about family values and the sanctity of marriage while each of his wives was a mistress he kept while with the previous one. He's always getting blowjobs from his mistresses because to himeatin' ain't cheatin'. He's such a disgusting ball of grease and slime that not even Christie would eat him
I can totally see Trump going "I know you're my lapdog Chris, but I'm going to go for Newt Gingrich."
I think SNL did a skit like this month's go when Cruz first brought the issue up
both of those canidates might actually cause a poll dip instead of a poll bump. No, seriously both are hated in the GOP establishment.
I don't know about the other guy but Newt is just pure slime
Newt is like a grimer, and Chris Christie is a muk.
This fucking election cycle. Whoever wins, we lose.
Christie lost all credibility when he says he wants to enforce federal marijuana laws. Newt, ehhh
Christie lost all credibility when he says he wants to enforce federal marijuana laws. Newt, ehhh
If it comes between enforcing federal weed laws and recreating the House of Un-American Activities Committee, while both are shit I'd rather take the former if I had to choose.
christie is that one guy you invite to your D&D group only to realize he didn't bring his own snacks and eats everyone elses and then wonders why everyone is mad at him.
christie is that one guy you invite to your D&D group only to realize he didn't bring his own snacks and eats everyone elses and then wonders why everyone is mad at him.
Christie is the cleric of the party who will charge you gold to heal you in the middle of battle, only to give you half of your HP back instead of full.
Maybe Trump really never did want to become president and this is his final attempt to capsize the boat he never meant to sail this far.
both are trash but i'd rather have newt tbh
