I used to be fat. Here are my pics. As you can see, I used to be fat nearly my entire life. I'm 5'10. My fattest was 230lbs (15 years old). Now (still 5'10) at 175lbs (24 years old). The "fat selfie" was in Aug'13. The "buff instagram" is Sep'14. I practice clean eating mostly follow the Paleo Diet. My workouts are core-strengthening and stability based. It was a long journey. And through this journey I discovered I wanted to help others with their fitness goals, too. That's why I became a certified personal trainer (NASM) and chose to major in Kinesiology at my University. Anyway, I figured since I'll be having clients soon I might as well get a feel for how that works. So I want to help you all (free of charge) with your fitness goals. For starters, tell me about: Your age and gender (gives me ideas on what strategies I can suggest to you) Your biggest health problem and full story What you've tried What you've HATED about what you tried I'll read everyone's posts and see what strategies I can suggest for you. Cool? **P.S.** I’d like to compile and organize all my answers and suggested solutions for those that are interested. If you want it you can get a reminder when I complete it here. **Disclaimer** Oh and by the way, you should always consult with your doctor first
Great progress from being photographed by others, to taking selfies and looking in the mirror, to the mainstream taking a selfie while looking at the phone.
That's very impressive but in this particular corner of the web is the norm. If you want to give advice to people who used to be in your old position then I would go to GD (general discussion). We all lift here and most of us have a good idea of what we are doing. If you want to give advice, just answer someone's question in the main weightloss thread. Good work though bro.
cmon son
Your age and gender: 21 male Your biggest health problem and full story: Not much story to it I think. Never really did any exercise while I was growing and instead was sitting on my ass all day. I also drank iced tea, other sugary drinks and junk food. Now I have pain in my lower back area when I'm standing on my legs for too long. Biggest problem is my body composition I think. I was never really fat the heaviest I ever was, was 80kg but the problem is body composition. I have relatively small arms with small wrists, okay legs but my entire upper body lacks muscle. Fat is concentrated around my midsection. What you've tried: Less eating but I ended up loosing too much weight (10kg) and my face became gaunt. Probably lost some muscle because of that. Some time after I tried weight lifting for a few months but quit after that. I gained some muscle but nothing significant. Another thing is my ribcage flares out but I think that's because of weak/underdeveloped muscles? What you've HATED about what you tried: The thing I hated the most was that during the time I lifted I gained a lot of fat. Guys in the gym were constantly telling me to eat 3000kcal at least. I ate more (prob not 3000 kcal) but it mostly helped me getting fat. optional info: around 5'11 78kf body weight
Another thing is my ribcage flares out but I think that's because of weak/underdeveloped muscles?
Like this (prolly not as skinny tho)? That's actually a genetic defect, it's usually fixed by having a surgeon stick a metal bar in your chest for a few years at around the age of 17. Ab workouts can help force the ribs down a bit as well. Generally, it's only an aesthetic thing but if it's extremely severe (like the pic) it can cause a few breathing problems. Source: I have the same thing

Source: I have the same thing
While the picture is extreme I have something like that but less severe ( thank god ) with both flaring on the side of the chest and a dent in the middle. You said you have the same thing, did you have surgery for that? Also I am a few years older than 17 so I'm wondering if that surgery is still doable for someone who is older.

Ask a qualified surgeon for a better answer. And by the way, this is what it can look like when you have that + muscles [t]http://meetings.westernthoracic.org/abstracts/2012/images/g317_3.jpg[/t] [t]http://images.t-nation.com/forum_images/1/8/18280_ORIG-june_december_2011.jpg[/t] (The June pic was taken immediately before the surgery to fix it, which meant he wasn't really able to work out as much after, and had lost some gains by August.) And these are the wiki articles on the condition and the surgical procedure used to treat it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pectus_excavatum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuss_procedure
Damn that is a world of difference his chest looks much better now, the issue really makes your chest thinner from the side. Better check severity index and hope it is severe enough I'm not even sure if this covered by insurance. Thanks I'll ask a professional for further consulting.
