A foreign affiliate of the Fox television network apologized this week after it published a poll on Facebook asking whether users felt like Jews were responsible for killing the biblical deity character Jesus Christ.
The poll was published by Fox Latin America, based in Argentina, according to The Associated Press. It was attached to a post promoting the National Geographic Channel’s annual Christmas special.
Other poll answers included “Pontius Pilate” and “High Priests.”
A local Jewish group insisted the poll was a reference to Vatican propaganda against Jews, which the church has long since turned away from.
The current Pope, Benedict XVI, has similarly insisted that in the story, Jews were not responsible for the killing, saying that the ages-old tale of torture and death was instead pre-determined by the deity’s father as a way to forgive humans for their transgressions, not to saddle them with more.
The Fox poll was taken off Facebook almost as quickly as it went up. A network spokesman apologized and vowed that it wouldn’t happen again.
It was not clear which poll answer Fox viewers favored.
Part of the deal the Romans had with Judea was that Judea ran the province as their own and only paid attention to taxes and a few of their laws. The Jewish group that was in power in Judea was the one responsible for pursuing Jesus because a Messiah would be a threat to their rule(the son of god should rule over all Jews, logically), the Romans collaborated because the Judean government told the Romans that Jesus would lead a rebellion against Roman rule in Judea.
At least that's my understanding of it. And either way, just because a bunch of jewish guys in positions of power didn't want to cede any power, it doesn't reflect in any way on the jewish people.

Official Christian doctrine no longer holds that Jews killed Jesus (but it used to) and the Catholic church used to enjoy persecuting the Jews because of it (a large reason for their secret support of Hitlers regime). Some say its the Jews fault because in the New Testament Jews are held in part responsible for Jesus death I recall. Some of this position comes from the fact that the disciples were Jewish, and it was a disciple, Judas, who betrayed him to the Roman authorities (though, that seems kind of odd if it would be the Jews fault, seing Jew among a bunch of other Jews fucked up). From a bible point of view: Gospels Jesus was put up before the Romans by the Pharisees, a Jewish sect as basically a rabble rouser and a community organizer who (if his plans would come to fruition in the Pharisees eyes) cause unrest for the Romans. The Romans did not like unrest. If someone were to be punished for religious crimes then that religious group would mete out the punishment. But the Pharisees wanted Jesus' followers to know that they were in charge of Judaism. They basically presented Jesus to the Romans with charges of being an an anti-Roman, rabble rouser type. Governor Pontius Pilate examined Jesus and found him not guilty of organizing against the Romans (render unto Caesar) The Pharisees wanted him put to death and the Romans acquiesced. A combination of the both. That was then and this is now. And there is no reason to lay blame at anybody's feet, because if Jesus had not died he could not be resurrected and his prophesy could not be fulfilled. The death and resurrection were all part of God's plan. If you believe all that.
In march 2000 the pope of that period begged for forgiveness/apologized for (among other things) persecution of the Jewish people and the catholic churches silence during Hitlers final solution followed by their offical preaching of anti semitism doctrine right up until 1964. Have you ever wondered why Jews have got such a hard time? Do you guys not think that might have had something to do with public opinion in those times for Catholics and other Christians people around the world?
Do I blame people for still believing the Jews killed Jesus? Hardly, after all it was preached over hundreds of years to people as fact.
I too in school was brought up to believe that the Jews had basically killed Jesus for claiming he was the son of God.
But then we went and visted a Jewish temple and it was way more cooler than church, we got to eat Jew bread and watch the cartoon of Moses.
I thought Jesus was just trying to extend the Jewish faith, by adding on to it? Hence why the Old Testament of the Bible is the Jewish sacred text?
Christianity is just Judaism+.

Yeah, but Christians went against Jesus's wishes and made their own religion when he was trying to add to the Jewish faith. When the bible was 'finished' and edited to their liking by the Catholic Church in Rome during the empire days the Jewish scholars had not even finished with the old testament.
How does Jesus make tea?
Hebrews it.
That's how I remember Jesus.
Oh Fox news...you goobers

That's sort of misleading. The whole split between the Jews and Christians was over Jesus. Jews didn't believe Jesus was really the messiah so Christians extended the Jewish faith in their own direction that they believed, which branched away from the tradition Jewish faith.
So Christians are in a certain sense "Extended Jews". It's sort of hard to explain what I mean. I guess Christians decided to take Jesus as an addition and run with it, and the Jews chose not to and they just branched off.
You're probably right there, its been a while since I've picked up a bible.

still technically american
if Jews killed Jesus
and Hitler killed Jews
then Jesus is Hitler?
if Jews killed Jesus

Probably not.
The romans crucified Jesus and because he was called King of the Jews the actual king was butthurt and just rolled with the execution.
Well ok, there's more to it than that.

I would just like to add that the existence of Jesus is still debated today.
