Despite lax standards for sexual morality, pedophilia is still regarded as monstrously predatory for reasons which should be apparent. Radical feminist Alison Rapp has a very unique perspective on the issue. She argues not only for the legalization of child pornography, but also for more lax consent laws between children and adults.
According to her LinkedIn profile and as stated on her twitter, Ms. Rapp is a “Product Marketing Specialist at Nintendo of America” specializing in “Public Relations and Communications” and is responsible for the marketing of several games for the company. She has been extremely vocal on cultural criticism of manga and gaming which she examines through an “academic” lense. While injecting progressive views in analysis of gaming and comic book culture has been a high point of controversy, more troubling is her attitude towards children and sexuality.

At the Japan Studies Association Conference in Honolulu in 2012, Ms. Rapp presented Speech We Hate:…Anti-Child Pornography Laws; a thesis which outlined objections towards laws enacting against child pornography. Her piece can be boiled down to three points; that the consequences of consuming media containing child pornography are exaggerated, that child pornography constitutes free speech, and that Japan’s laws are a byproduct of cultural imperialism from the West. What her arguments do not address is the rewarding of child rape necessitated in making such media, and in fact suggest child adult relations are only a matter of cultural norms.
She's insane but nevertheless isn't the medium a blog site?
Some of the tweets mentioned in the article are uh...weird.
Honestly this is the first I've heard of her
Prediction: She won't be Public Relations Employee for much longer
I don't think Nintendo will like this
well, thats one way to commit career and social suicide simultaneously
I would be surprised if Nintendo did much about this seeing as she wrote her thesis 5 years ago, whilst I disagree with her completely about child porn, I, and I imagine a lot of people on this website do agree that the black-and-white-ness of consent age laws isn't great
Yeah she wrote it a while ago and apparently some people dug it up and she blames the whole thing on anti-gamergate or gamergate supports. (I don't even know or care at this point about gamergate)
This is actually kinda fine.

Though a lot of other views really depends on how they're actually talked about. There's the old adage that demonising it is worse than looking for it and treating it.
I don't like how extreme she's being because it becomes nonsense at that point. (Child porn? Seriously?) However, I think that we need to rethink our approach to pedophilia and sexuality with younger people as a whole. Pedophiles are treated like absolute scum regardless if they're offending or not - whether they're looking for help or not. That's not good. That's not cultivating a healthy mind. And, worse, I think that the grounds for being called a pedophile is way too unfair, and I'll tell you why:
I'm friends with someone who was about 13 at the time he lost his virginity, to someone that was around twice his age. Right from the get-go, people would be quick to say he was raped, that he should have gone to therapy, that that woman should have got arrested, and that the situation is in no way good. It's the inverse. He approached her about it and he was ready to have sex. He wasn't scarred for life or taken advantage of. It wasn't abusive. It was what it was and it was actually a really important expression of trust and learning.
I also think that successful civilizations have existed prior to ours that involved relations with people at around that age, including marriages. Now, I'm not saying that old lifestyle is good, but I'm zeroing on in the sexuality of it. I think we have convinced ourselves, somehow, that looking at younger people in this way is something awful, but I personally don't get the big deal as long as it stays away from abuse. Determining whether or not it is abuse seems to be the bigger issue that leads to this blanket condemnation and unwillingness to explore this phenomenon any further. It seems like a cop out.
But yeah, hearing about my friend and hearing his thoughts on the subject has led me to reform my personal barometer on the subject (despite the fact that I'm not attracted to kids or anything) - as long as it's purely consensual, initiated by the younger person, and the younger person is sexually mature, I have no reason to say it's wrong outside of society saying it's bad.
I also feel super bad for pedophiles because it seems like the normal attraction for a male is someone in their early 20's - it's pretty much the same regardless of age. It seems like it ends up becoming offset into the younger ages and it can't be changed, just like a homosexual can't change their orientation. But I don't think it even has to be offset that much - we're willing to say it's gross for a senior in high school to get with a freshman in high school, but have a different mindset when it's in college.
Basically I think we need to rethink this strictness of age. When she says that this protectiveness of children sexually is a social construct, she's definitely overshooting. My thought is that we are overprotective of children in a specific range that is unwarranted.
She has balls though.
I don't know for how much time she's been voicing this opinion, but i'd think she would loose her job and hell yeah i would avoid contact with her.

Quick question, and it's strictly a curious question: would you continue to hang out with someone if they told you they were a non-offending pedophile looking for help?
that child pornography constitutes free speech
Like, no? It's not just "free speech" if it's actively hurting someone and if it's a child on top of all that. I guess people should be allowed to make and release snuff films too then, since it's free speech, right?

What the fuck?
Like, I was exposed pretty early on in my childhood to gore (mostly from watching my dad play videogames like Duke Nukem and Doom) and I thought it was pretty disturbing and it made me feel nauseus.
I wouldn't want to force that unto any kid.

That would be an awkward conversation, but yes. No offense, no crime.
I mean, at least by itself it wouldn't make me avoid them.
If we were to choose only people with 100% mental health (if you can even define that) to hang out with we'd be very lonely.

Wouldn't that just straight up be child abuse?

Eh kids are all different, I was watching shit like The Thing back when and it didn't fuck me up or make me feel sick in anyway, though I'll admit it did scare the shit out of me.

Sure everyone are different. But forcing anyone, especially kids, to watch gore is disgusting.
I was expecting her just to defend pedophiles (not child molesters) as in that the government should help them if they have uncontrollable urges, but this is wow.
She's insane but nevertheless isn't the medium a blog site?
I think it's fine. Has facts to back up its news, not misrepresenting like crazy etc.

That's some gold quality cognitive dissonance.
Sure everyone are different. But forcing anyone, especially kids, to watch gore is disgusting.
Oh no I completely disagree with her attempts at forcing children to watch such things, fuck that, that's just a bit sadistic.

Using the words 'agency' and 'force' in the same sentence. Bravo, lady.
So basically
She's completely fucking insane
From the headline I thought that this was a story about castigating a Nintendo employee for retweeting Sarah Nyberg but no its actual support for actual pedophilia.
I thought she was supporting the pedophiles that know it is wrong and are trying their best not to act on it, as they tend to get grouped into the Pedophiles who do it anyway.
I guess I was wrong.
