Military medics hope the experiments on Prahlad Jani can help soldiers develop their survival strategies. The long-haired and bearded yogi is under 24-hour observation by a team of 30 doctors during three weeks of tests at a hospital in the western city of Ahmedabad. Two cameras have been set up in his room, while a mobile camera films him when he goes outside, guaranteeing round-the-clock observation. His body will be scanned and his brain and heart activity measured with electrodes. "The observation from this study may throw light on human survival without food and water," said Dr G. Ilavazahagan, who is directing the research. "This may help in working out strategies for survival during natural calamities, extreme stressful conditions and extra-terrestrial explorations like future missions to the Moon and Mars by the human race." Since the experiment began on April 22, Jani has neither eaten nor drunk and has not been to the toilet. "The exercise of taking this yogi under the medical scanner is to understand what energy supports his existence," Dr Ilavazahagan added. "Jani says he meditates to get energy. Our soldiers will not be able to meditate, but we would still like to find out more about the man and his body." Jani, who dresses in red and wears a nose ring, grew up in Charod village in the Mehsana district in Gujarat. He claims to have been blessed by a goddess when he was aged eight, which has enabled him to survive without sustenance. Prahlad Jani spent a fortnight in a hospital in the western India state of Gujarat under constant surveillance from a team of 30 medics equipped with cameras and closed circuit television. During the period, he neither ate nor drank and did not go to the toilet. "We still do not know how he survives," neurologist Sudhir Shah told reporters after the end of the experiment. "It is still a mystery what kind of phenomenon this is." The long-haired and bearded yogi was sealed in a hospital in the city of Ahmedabad in a study initiated by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the state defence and military research institute. The DRDO hopes that the findings, set to be released in greater detail in several months, could help soldiers survive without food and drink, assist astronauts or even save the lives of people trapped in natural disasters. "(Jani's) only contact with any kind of fluid was during gargling and bathing periodically during the period," G. Ilavazahagan, director of India's Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), said in a statement. Jani has since returned to his village near Ambaji in northern Gujarat where he will resume his routine of yoga and meditation. He says that he was blessed by a goddess at a young age, which gave him special powers. During the 15-day observation, which ended on Thursday, the doctors took scans of Jani's organs, brain, and blood vessels, as well as doing tests on his heart, lungs and memory capacity. "The reports were all in the pre-determined safety range through the observation period," Shah told reporters at a press conference last week. Other results from DNA analysis, molecular biological studies and tests on his hormones, enzymes, energy metabolism and genes will take months to come through. "If Jani does not derive energy from food and water, he must be doing that from energy sources around him, sunlight being one," said Shah. "As medical practitioners we cannot shut our eyes to possibilities, to a source of energy other than calories."
And once again :wtc:
Holy shit, man.
Interesting
How the hell? You sure he's not a zombie?
Notice that he only claims of doing so. Hell I could claim I've been flying to Mars because I've been blessed by some "goddess" when I was 5. (User was banned for this post ("Read the OP before replying" - Benji))
This is incredibly awesome.
I find it hard to believe, the body can't survive without a basic intake of nutrients, unless he has somehow tricked his body into producing those necessities. If it's true then allowing him to be used for science could lead to some great things. Highly doubt we will ever see anything about him in the news again though,
I bet his awesome hair and beard have developed the ability to photosynthesize

it is a plant
Hmmm, edit that, I didn't quite catch the part about him already doing it for 7 days. Wish they would give us an analysis of how he is behaving so far.
it is a plant
Like that tree guy?
I call bullshit.

Your body can't just magically make energy, the world doesn't work that way.

He's been monitored all around the clock since then. Already those few days are remarkable for a human being.
brb converting to hinduism
it is a plant
This just in The man was actually said plant in disguise. Silly plant. [editline]01:43PM[/editline]
If he doesn't eat or drink how would his body produce anything? I don't know...
If he doesn't eat or drink how would his body produce anything? Your body can't just magically make energy, the world doesn't work that way.
I can only really see a problem with dehydration but other than that, abstractly thinking, there's potential in everything: Air, sunlight, heat and all kinds of shit. It's just a miracle how he'd exactly use that.
What the fuck! Thats incredible!
Anyone can claim to do anything. I call bullshit because the elderly can be batshit insane and say anything to get attention.
He'll probably die in about 3-4 days and everyone will be like "aaawwwww, to bad... ..., OH GOD A WOMAN EATING STONES, let's hype that shit"
Invulnerability! Jokes asides, how the fuck does that work? Sounds waaay to awesome to be true.
yeah i heard gabe newell hasnt eaten or drunk anything in years.....

What the hell? That's crazy.
I have to hand it to him, that's one Yogi that can restrain himself from a good picnic basket.
Basically he is a autotroph just like a plant.
yeah i heard gabe newell hasnt eaten or drunk anything in years.....
So he really is a Boomer...

It should be fairly easy to test if he really hasn't eaten anything in 70 years. About these 7 days though.. I say it's either a hoax or his body has somehow learnt to metabolize itself and recycle water and nutrients. I can guarantee he's not going to survive too much longer though.
