Fuck I don't even have USB 3 yet.
Fuck I don't even have USB 3 yet.
I don't even have USB 2.0.
wow this will probably not catch on because of the fact that things connecting by USB are so standard. Like making another thing just doesn't make much sense, despite the speed increase.
Intel claims that future versions will be able to reach 100 Gb/sec.
:aaaaa:
wow this will probably not catch on because of the fact that things connecting by USB are so standard. They'll be told that Thunderbolt is just "really really fast" and think it'll make their computers faster so they HAVE to get it.
Oh the irony of the time it took to load this page.
100 gb/s hello jesus christ [editline]24th February 2011[/editline] Glad they're making progress though, intel <3
Fuck I don't even have USB 3 yet.
now you dont need to
I like usb because it charges and powers things, making it crucial for phones and memory sticks. This won't replace usb.
I like usb because it charges and powers things, making it crucial for phones and memory sticks. This won't replace usb.
uh, im sure that the fiber optic version of thunderbolt will have metal contacts for power too
This is why I love Intel over AMD, they actually get shit done.
100 gb/s hello jesus christ
it's partly for this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_Gigabit_Ethernet I hope intel shift to fiber optic soon to drive down the cost of fiber optic transceivers, because they are really expensive. I don't know how they are going to pull it off with copper.
Sweet. Maybe in some 2-5 years it's become more of a common and supported thing for normal consumers as well. With the extreme rise in hard disk capacity comes an extreme rise in speed requirements. It's already faster to download files from a server rather than transfer from a USB device for a handful of people, hell, even copying from one internal disk to another can be slower for some.
Fucking hell, I only just bought a USB 3.0 port two weeks ago. :argh:
Fuck off intel. Hurry up and fix my Sandy Bridge that you recalled so I can play vidjya already.
I feel your pain
Goddamn that sounds useful.
Too bad Thunderbolt is only available on Macbook Pros right now. I hope a slenderized PC protocol will also be released soon, hopefully with the same specifications as the one currently implemented in the Macbook.
slenderized? the macbook pro thunderbolt is pure intel design, they just gave it to apple first because they standardized display ports
Meant to say "standardized", but autocorrect wrote something completely irrelevant.
Meant to say "standardized", but autocorrect wrote something completely irrelevant.
wow don't rely on autocorrect
10 Gigabit per second seems alright, but I can't see the need to go 10 times faster than that for another 3-4 years just for file transfers between devices.
10 Gigabit per second seems alright, but I can't see the need to go 10 times faster than that for another 3-4 years just for file transfers between devices.
I do. There is nothing worse than waiting for files to be moved. Especially since it usually slugs down your PC so it's not always a wise choice to do anything else other than internet browsing.
This is why I love Intel over AMD, they actually get shit done.
Yay lets start a flame war :downs:
This is why I love Intel over AMD, they actually get shit done.
four times the price must mean four times the performance, oh wait.
Shouldn't they connect the cable before they launch it?
Shouldn't they connect the cable before they launch it?
Erm...what?
Erm...what?
You've gotta be kidding me. I was being literal.
I got a usb 3.0 port on the top of my comp case and a usb 2.0 so I am interested.
literal
I originally thought this was a RPS article and expected a picture of a trebuchet with a guy wearing an Intel polo holding fiber optic cable copy-pasta'd next to it. Although, to be honest, I'm not quite sure if there is any possible context that would give RPS the authority to write about Intel.
