A vehicle designed by a group of Kansas City-area students could get up to 400 mpg and could change the face of fuel-efficient cars. KMBC 9's Marcus Moore reports.

There's also a video.
Again, first to find source get hearts. A complete news source.

Found it.
Impressive, but of course a car made out of 2mm thick plastic will never be practical.
Plus it can only hold one person.
...not to be a buzzkill

Still nice for travelling.
I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything. But this isn't the first time it has been done, many people have created cars like that. But the thing is they're not practical and will more then likely never be implemented or be used. Hell we're having problems getting hybrids popular and cost effective.
Though it doesn't mean we should stop, things like that will provide some type of step forward or give us new incite, a small step. But a step forward.
Not going to get out there, oil companies just love to buy the patents or whatever on these so they don't go out of business.
-wrong thread sorry-

until you crash
Watch his car magically disappear.
Fucking government...

fucking government and their remote teleporters...
i got 41mpg if i try damnit
They've made cars with mpgs in the thousands, you just have to be coasting most of the time on a flat road at around 15 mph.

I get about 15MPG in the city :smug:
20-25MPG on the highway.

I'm a badass teen racer stereotypically (Y)
You probably have a badasss truck
So it's a racing car with plastic body?
Not practical. When you give it a few thousand (maybe to the tune of even a few hundred) more pounds of steel, expand the chasis into a two seater (cause you can't strap yo bitch to da hood of this flimsy motherfucker) atleast, a four seater generously, and drop in a fat guy, the MPG would drop dramatically. Couple this with the fact they said "equivalent" never "actual." Estimates are great, but unless you have solid testing, it's like the drunk guy who claims he could "Go all night baby" and then...you've heard the song.
The government won't make it disappear and big oil will just laugh. It'll crumple under the weight of the first average american and his big mac.

I get 10 MPG city.:smugissar:
And around 30 MPG highway.

I'm looking forward to hydrogen cars. I seen a video of a hydrogen race car that can reach high speeds, still sounds like a real car, and only emits water.

Yep.
I love my truck <3

That's something I would like to see myself. Even an electric car would be nice, but electric cars still don't eliminate fossils fuels. Most plants still use fossil fuels to generate power. But none the less it is a step forward, which is better then taking no action.
My bike gets ∞ MPG. :colbert:

Until you end up dead in a car vs motorcycle accident...

Two different cars:

All the efficiency is nice, and I'm sure the car guys will enjoy being able to hear your car rather than the hum of an electric engine.

To add, I think what we need to do is get hydrogen cars for widespread sale by 2015 at least, and gradually replace coal with Nuclear power (which we should have done YEARS ago). Then replace the rest of the fossil fuel plants with fusion whenever they get those Torus things working which won't be for awhile.
Uhhh, it's getting the EQUIVALENT of 300-400 mpg.
IT'S AN ELECTRIC CAR. It can't even exceed 42 mph.
This is just an overgrown electric remote controlled car. Right down to the thin detachable plastic cover.
There are no revolutions in battery design or in engine architecture.
Fucking irresponsible news outlets.
The big five will shut him down. Just like they did with Tucker.
