5 Chinese naval ships sail around Alaska as Obama visits the state
Five Chinese navy ships are sailing in international waters in the Bering Sea off Alaska, the Pentagon said Wednesday, in an apparent first for China’s military that came as US President Barack Obama toured the state.
Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said it was the first time the United States had seen Chinese navy ships in the Bering Sea.
“We respect the freedom of all nations to operate military vessels in international waters in accordance with international law,” Davis said.
The appearance of the ships is an example of the expanding reach of China’s navy and overlapped with a three-day visit by Obama to Alaska as part of his efforts to raise awareness about climate change.
Two US defense officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the United States had identified a Chinese amphibious ship, a replenishment vessel and three surface combatant ships.
You smell that?
Smells like regional tensions as we move from equilibrium to empire.
What the fuck China?
Wow. First This, and also that video they recently released, showing them "attacking" the US... wtf are you up to, China?

They sailed in international waters, how is this a big deal
the main chinese navy is still contained in the kiddy pool known as the east china sea
um... what?!

Territorial waters only extend out for 12 miles. That means they could be sailing 13 miles off the coast (which is pretty damn close) and still be in international waters.

But hasn't USA and its allies held the pacific naval power for the last 70 years? The only reason china developed the anti-ship missiles was the power imbalance in the pacific. They saw they could never beat america and its allies by sheer number of ships so instead they figured out a way to destroy them more efficiently.
Also 5 ships are far cry from intimidating fleet.

So, apparently the Chinese stole the M-5 missile design and held a parade about it and Putin was in Beijing (according to fox news video: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/09/04/5-chinese-navy-ships-off-alaska-coast-reportedly-pass-through-us-waters/)

Fleet don't need as big as they used to be to be powerful. But none of the less if there was to be a naval war in the Pacific, the U.S + Allies would have the definite advantage unless the Chinese or Russians pull off a Pearl Harbor.
And unless my information is outdated both Russia and China each have a single active carrier(The latter of which's is an imported Russian carrier) while the U.S has more than the entire world combined and not to the mention the ones used by our allies.

It's more like a bro showing off, revving up his loud-ass Camaro to the guy sitting in a Veyron, in a stoplight.
This is nothing more than governmental dickwaving for china, they are well within international waters
What do you expect with a country that is overpopulated to fuck and like 90% male?
That's just a shit storm waiting to happen

I don't think the number of ships really matter when you sail your navy that close to another's territory.

The US does the exact same thing and we don't see any news about how close they got to China's territory.

It's probably reported in China.
Plus it's probably reported, just not seen often.
This piece of news wasn't exactly on the front page of CNN's website.

It wasn't when I posted that.
I checked before making that post just to be sure.
Invite them over for dinner.
This and the fact that they have recently changed their nuclear warfare policies to no longer disallowing first strikes really fucking bothers me.
The cock-waving that is happening as of recently scares the shit out of me.

It's impossible to say "nothing will happen" with the tensions this high, all it takes are a few misunderstood winks and nudges and all hell breaks loose.
While it is highly improbable that anything bad will happen, it's not going to make me less scared.

Anti-ship balistic missiles haven't ever been demonstrated to work against real targets though, US carrier groups aren't sitting around, they're jamming everything, they have intelligent point defense systems and the missiles themselves have to have a CEP of a few feet where as traditional ballistic missiles are in CEP of miles, if they had such tech it would be much better served upgrading ICBMs instead of on these weapons

By your flagdog, you don't even live in the US, what are you so afraid of?
You're honestly more likely to be hit by a bus tomorrow than have the US and China erupt in war against one another. Really need to lay off the stress.

Denmark still is a NATO country, we have quite the strategic importance too since we have a lot to do and say about anything that goes in or out of the baltic sea. This is more a source of concern if a Russo-American war erupted, but for some reason I have this fear of CIS and China ganging up on the west.

I think the phrase "try decaf" is most appropriate here.
Nothing is going to happen, you need to relax. Maybe stop reading about such things for a while.
