[release] Plasma Versus Chicken Breast Dirks et al., Journal of Food Protection We've seen the plasma beam toothbrush, where a blast of room-temperature plasma destroys plaque and bacteria in your mouth. Now researchers at Drexel University have applied the technology to raw chicken and found that the gentle blue blast of ionized matter effectively removes pathogens on the poultry's surface. When raw chicken breasts had a normal amount of pathogens (Salmonella enterica and Campylobacter jejuni were the culprits that were tested), the plasma almost completely eliminated them. The technology is still too expensive to fit into the highly streamlined production lines that bring skinless, boneless, sanitized poultry to your table, but -- not least because it is equally effective on antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria -- the proof of concept is an intriguing one. The researchers suggest that the treatment could significantly increase the shelf life of raw meat by removing microorganisms responsible for spoilage. They don't mention, though, the first idea that popped into my mind: delicious chicken sashimi.[/release] http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2012-02/cool-plasma-torch-kills-germs-raw-chicken Yeah for food science!
Cool plasma's pretty awesome, I heard they're planning on using it on dentistry work as well.
That's so awesome.
This is really great, especially the bit about anti-biotic resistant strains of bacteria. That in itself is greatly beneficial. But really, chicken sashimi doesn't sound very nice.

now we need to shrink it down and turn it into anti-vampire glitter... :v:
how long until we have cool plasma booths instead of showers in our homes?
how long until we have cool plasma booths instead of showers in our homes?
That just wouldn't feel right. Showering without getting wet... I doubt I'd ever feel as clean as I do when I shower with really hot water.
This is a really big step towards the right direction for food handling
That just wouldn't feel right. Showering without getting wet... I doubt I'd ever feel as clean as I do when I shower with really hot water.
You'd still have to wash to remove the dead cells and grime and shit. It's just more effective.
Can it get blood stains off of clothing?
Dunno, but wouldn't this sort of stuff be insanely useful for medical applications?
Dunno, but wouldn't this sort of stuff be insanely useful for medical applications?
If you're talking about using it to sterilize people working on patients, then they'd still need to wash. But yes, it would make it easier to sterilize.
If you're talking about using it to sterilize people working on patients, then they'd still need to wash. But yes, it would make it easier to sterilize.
And it would be useful for sterilizing things like cuts, wouldn't it?
If you're talking about using it to sterilize people working on patients, then they'd still need to wash. But yes, it would make it easier to sterilize.
So not only is this good for cooking, But technically it could eventually be used for medical purposes? SCIENCE!
Can it get semen stains off of clothing?
Can it get semen stains off of clothing?
Nothing can do that. They make tanks out of semen stained clothing.
Nothing can do that. They make tanks out of semen stained clothing.
I made a house out of the blankets I used when I was a teenager. F5 tornado hit, semen flakes everywhere.
That just wouldn't feel right. Showering without getting wet... I doubt I'd ever feel as clean as I do when I shower with really hot water.
It'd be a good way to save water in space though.
cool
Plasma toothbrushes sound cool. It's about time somebody invented something a little more sophisticated than brushes and paste - the entire medical industry continues to revolutionise with prosthetic limbs, jaws and surgery but dentistry has stayed relatively the same for the past 50 years with the basic idea being a to use a brush, and when that inevitably isn't quite enough in your later years you get your teeth ripped out with pliers. Fucking dentists. Oh right yeah plasma torch cool
Does it kill nematode eggs?
Cool plasma's pretty awesome, I heard they're planning on using it on dentistry work as well.
I look forward to getting my teeth cleaned by a cool plasma torch.
Can it get tears off of clothing?
I made a house out of the blankets I used when I was a teenager. F5 tornado hit, semen flakes everywhere.
But the house was still standing, right? :v:
Wha? Plasma toothbrush? I want me one of those.
Can it get saliva, both dried (mine) and still slightly wet (not mine), off of clothing?
Can it get guilt and regret off a soul?
Wow, that's pretty fucking cool.
Can it get clothing off of women?
