like 80% of the poor decisions by sony pictures and sony pictures animations can be traced back to her somehow
He's a lot more generous to the studio's previous movies than I think most people would be. The only one I've heard moderately good things about is cloudy with a chance of meatballs, but still not high enough praise that I've set aside any time to watch it.

The first Cloudy was, in my opinion, great. I absolutely loved it.
The second one was a waste of my time.
watching this i realized i missed some interesting title so it was totally worth my time
This guy needs to work on his delivery, his voice and articulation isn't bad but he's terribly boring to listen to.
Still absolutely pissed about them not going through with the Popeye movie.

Sony doesn't deserve Popeye or Genndy.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 is a textbook example of a cashgrab sequel with none of the spirit nor humor nor heartfelt...ed...ness of the original. I was so disappointed by it after how great the first one was. It's probably 100% because the second one didn't have Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directing, unlike the first.

I don't think he's boring but there's just something really uncanny about the delivery and inflections imo

not to mention that mr t didn't return and his voice was replaced
I will never understand the thought process that lead to Surf's Up 2.

WWE was the one who pitched it to Sony.
They wanted to do a crossover with a nearly decade old movie solely because they were sports themed.
I think the only thing I like from Sony Pictures Animation was probably Hotel Transylvania, and that was really only because of its excellent animation due to Genndy directing said animation. Didn't really care about the story or any other aspect.
With Genndy gone, they have nothing else appealing to me. Their other movies tend to be generic at best and soul-less cash grabs at worst. Basically, how every Sony movie is these days.
Sorry but he keeps calling the Emoji movie a success when it grossed slightly over $55 mil on a $50 mil budget, and that's not factoring in marketing, which was absolutely monster.
This movie was a flop, through and through.
Luckily Genndy is doing Hotel Transylvania 3 so at least there's that

I got to meet one of the animators from sony and the technology they have over there is really cool. Shame about their movies.

They must've made back enough money from the product placement alone
They must've made back enough money from the product placement alone
Uunless a movie earns at least 3 times what they spent on it, then its a flop.
You spent $50 million on production/editing/ all that stuff, but that doesn't cover the advertising budget which is separate from the production budget and advertising is expensive as fuck. I wouldn't be surprised if it was over 10 million just in the US alone(add in Europe and Asia).
Just earning what you spent on a project isn't successful because you're out the estimated profit that everyone was expecting. Theres a lot more to this, like points off the backend(IE: actors, writers, directors getting a percentage of the films gross).
So when you hear about a film like Sonys Ghostbusters reboot and they said it cost $125 million to make and the films Box Office was like $225 million, that means it was a success right? It made almost twice what they spent on it sure, but we dont know how much was spent on advertising(they were REALLY pushing that movie hard too) and the film apparently had some big re-shoots done about 2 months before it was released and If by some chance it was say, an extra $25 million to do all these reshoots then that means the budget was $150 million on production, thats $450 million it would have had to make to be a success if we exclude the advertising budget.
Product placement aside(I'm unfamiliar with how it works) the movie industry is fucking insane in how budgets work and how deals are made.
Just making back what you spent on it isn't good business.

They spent a LOT on advertising. The Emoji Movie was basically everywhere before it came out.

It's $65m, though, and it's only been in the cinema for like a week, though? I'd like for it to do shit, but I think it's a bit early to tell. Anyway, it doesn't look like it's doing well outside the US, so let's hope it stays in the shitter.
So, is the second HT movie the one where the plot glosses over a teen pregnancy that no one bats an eye at and its really weird?
Considering this movie was one giant ad, there's no knowing how much it made since you cant track it's impact on sales.

If you feel like having a giggle and wondering how the fuck someone so unprofessional could get such a high profile job, google Amy Pascal's leaked e-mails.

Keep in mind the first thing you have to prepare for when reading these e-mails, is that they're in all caps.
After watching the video i watched Hotel Transylvania with my gf and we both adored it, had something unique going on. Going to attempt 2 as well but i feel the quality already dropped there.
Luckily Genndy is doing Hotel Transylvania 3 so at least there's that
The HT movies are well animated (I especially like that in some scenes everything becomes basically 2D) but oh boy are they boring as hell.
