A man with a NYPD squad car has been arrested — by British police after he drove it in an English town.
The 33-year-old driver, Mark Knight, was arrested as he parked his car — complete with the iconic police livery - in the traditional market town of Guildford, close to London, while he went to buy a McDonald's.
What the fuck?
[del]Is that an MP40?
the hells he doing with an MP40?[/del]
also, pretty cool but definitely a no no :v:
If he obtained it legally, I don't see an issue. Though usually departments strip off the livery and wiring before they sell it. Apparently it was used in movies, so maybe the studio sold it and it skipped that process?

Looks like he also has a M1911 pistol and a Winchester Model 1897
That's...pretty awesome.

According to the article, he was arrested for impersonating an officer.

If you zoom in it is a small AK.
Drawn to the strange looking car — at least in the UK — officers opened the trunk of the police car and discovered replica firearms and police equipment.
No no it's a UK47
No no it's a UK47
Now I'm just disappointed that Ukraine missed the opportunity to call their AK clones "UK-47's".

I want Ukraine to produce cranes that can be used at home and call them you-cranes.

Even so the car is LHD and the UK uses RHD cars so it would be stupid to drive this around anywhere without converting it
LHD cars on Left side drive roads, not a good mix
while he went to buy a McDonald's.
Like, the whole thing?
According to the article, he was arrested for impersonating an officer.
How? It cant be the car.
How did he get it there is what I want to know.
Like, the whole thing?
He had him some plans.
Got him a squad car from across the Atlantic and he was gonna franchise himself a McDonalds and run it the American way: heavily armed.
Like, the whole thing?
He was very hungry.
How did he get it there is what I want to know.
It's a pretty common occurrence for cars to be shipped across large bodies of water by boats or even planes.
just gonna point out that unless it had all of the NYPD decals taken off and new ones put on, it's not a fleet NYPD car
the spacing is all wrong, there's a random american flag, the precinct number is missing
either a prop house got a fleet crown vic stripped of decals and lights and put it back on (making it just a boring old crown vic) or someones dumb

[editline]blazyd[/editline]
and the real cop cars don't have a big giant nypd shield on their hood
Just think about it, it's the perfect car to do a drive-by shooting in. [sp]But only if you're in NYC[/SP]
-snpi-
Doubt it's legal to drive a car that says Police on it - even if it clearly looks like an NYPD car.

Was going to point this out. That's a pretty shitty knockoff. Then again, the average Brit probably couldn't tell without the reference shot.

Conversion is often fucking expensive.
You literally need to redo most of the front interior and completely replace the engine firewall + even some engine bits.
Just ain't worth it.
Better to just get a camera and monitor mounted to compensate for the lack of view for the driver when overtaking.

we'd end up with the crane version of the yugo.
They just randomly searched this guys car because it was decorated sort of like another countries police car? Do you guys not have any rights?
That's like painting my car to look like a pirate ship and the cops searching it because it might have swords in it. They didn't mention if there was a warrent involved or not.
Is it really impersonating police if the group being "Impersonated" has no authority? I don't think the article even mentions anything about him claiming to be an officer.
Also, wtf?
"The vehicle was an authentic New York squad car and apparently has been used in movies."
So if its a movie prop its NOT AUTHENTIC. The decals don't match a real cop car.

Having police written on your car is a big no-no no matter what.
