Even as many of us are still getting used to our shiny new iPhone 5′s and navigating the ins and outs of iOS 6, we’re seeing reports that iOS 7 and the next-generation iPhone are in the testing phase.
A device with the model identifier “iPhone6,1″ running iOS 7 is appearing in app usage logs, a developer told The Next Web. The iPhone 5 is identified as “iPhone5,1″ or “iPhone 5,2″ in developer logs, depending on the model.
“From the developer logs that we have seen, the app requests originate from an IP address on Apple’s Cupertino campus, suggesting that members of Apple’s software development and app teams are compatibility testing some of the more popular or well-known applications already on the App Store,” The Next Web reports.
Earlier this year, evidence of the iPad mini appeared in Instapaper founder Marco Arment’s app usage logs as a new iPad model called iPad 2,5 and 2,6 (Wi-Fi and cellular models of the device). Previous versions of the iPhone and its iOS operating system also have been spotted in logs.
Apple usually provides a first glimpse at its new version of iOS each June at WWDC, Apple’s annual developer conference. The OS actually launches to the public with the release of the next iPhone model, which for the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 has taken place in the fall.
Does this really come as a surprise to anyone? Of course they're working on the new iPhone
fucking apple rehashing the iphone. how many more sequels will there be?
fucking apple rehashing the iphone. how many more sequels will there be?
yeah i hate it when technology gets new, better iterations :'( windows 98 4 lyf
I love the iPhone but they need to innovate with it again, iPhone 5 was super disappointing and I'm pretty sure it didn't sell as well as the 4S
fucking apple rehashing the iphone. how many more sequels will there be?
Rehashing? Don't you know that these are the latest and greatest innovations, passed on by Steve Jobs before he died? It's his legacy!
fucking apple rehashing the iphone. how many more sequels will there be?
I love how you imply it's only Apple who does that.
I love how you imply it's only Apple who does that.
It's primarily apple that do next to nothing in those rehashes though.
iPad 3 to 4 for example. No real change other than the connector, and other very minor changes that didn't really make it worth buying
This just in - Apple found to be making new versions of successful devices, CEO Tim Cook to be hanged in front of a live audience

Most consumers replace their device every 2 years, so it's really not too large of a deal.

You should tell that to the whole mobile device market.

Every 2 years is fine. Releasing upgrades every year when you know your devices are being sold on a 2 year contract (3 year contract in some countries), however, is not.
I'm willing to bet anything that it's going to be another iPhone 4S with minimal changes and a software update. Just your friendly reminder to keep using the cheaper and much more efficient Android.

But what about people on the odd years instead of the even ones?

Android and efficient haven't really gone hand in hand, at least it's loads better in JB.

That shouldn't even be a consideration. It never was before Apple started doing this brilliant yearly device idea

Every manufacturer is putting new flagships out every year too, I still don't see how this is a bad thing if devices are still supported for an extended amount of time.
I told my friend not to get the iPhone 5

Did your friend a favor then.

He'll be waiting until the fall most likely.

Or he could get the more than capable Nexus 4 for $300 unlocked or wait for the Galaxy S4 which is going to be amazing.

Fairly certain this is a recent trend
Did your friend a favor then.
He got it anyway

Your friend is a trendy little dipshit then.

Samsung has been doing it since 2009, Blackberry since 2006, Apple since 2007, this isn't new.
There is a point where it is pointless rehashing for $$$, a point where it crosses the line of public support for adapting new, innovative technologies, into pointless profit mongering. I think apple crossed this line awhile ago.
While I appreciate public support of new, prototypical tech, the downside of a public like that is that the people that make new tech can abuse them for money.

I honestly see 2006 as recent, however I wasn't aware that RIM were doing it before anyone else.
I mean at least Samsung's flagships are worthy of being called flagships.
Galaxy S1: single core Android 2.0, custom UI
Galaxy S2: dual core Android 2.3 (upgraded to 4.0). compleely different design, custom UI
Galaxy S3: quad core Android 4.0 (upgraded to 4.1), completely different design, custom UI

samsung does the exact same shit and so does htc

I really hope the iPhone has NFC support because that'd be a god send

I got an iPhone 4 last Christmas and I will say that it is much more user-friendly than my Droid Incredible ever was (PROTIP: the Incredible was supposed to contend with the iPhone 4) and was only $100 on a contract. After jail-breaking it, it has become even more user-friendly since I can configure it however I want.
Calling the iPhone 'trendy' may be true, but that doesn't mean it's a horrible phone.

Honestly, I hate the fact that to customize your own device, you need to void your warranty, and this is for both Android AND iOS. It's not as big of a problem with the Android, since they do give you a lot of freedom out of the box, but you can't do everything the device is capable of without rooting.
But, what puts the icing on the cake is that Apple tried to make jailbreaking illegal, at least in the US
