Alright, I'm running this radio in my car; http://www.dualav.com/mobileaudio/xr4110.php It's cheap, but does what I need it to. I've noticed one thing and it really bothers me; When I play MP3's, they are maybe 1/2 the volume of the radio (usually I turn the radio up to 20/42, when using MP3's I have to go to 25ish before I can hear it okay but still not loud enough.) Could it just be the format I save my MP3's in? The ones I was listening to earlier were saved at 256Kbps, 44,100Hz. I looked at the radio's manual, those are within the range the radio can play. I did, however, resave them at 128Kbps just a minute ago. For some reason, WMP wouldn't play them. I don't know a whole lot about audio. I just know how to wire things up, replace things, etc.
I use the same radio, MP3s have always been quiet for me too! Mine actually got burnt up when my wiring harness had a short. WHere in the HELL do you find these anymore? I know they are cheap as fuck and they do exactly what I need -- Play an SD card and nothing else.
I've had this one a few years. I bought it to put in my '79 Chevy. The truck had just a basic AM/FM radio, and I wanted to play MP3's. In the truck, I couldn't even notice it being quiet. (Just a note, the truck has a 350sbc with the round style intake. It has no sound deadening, so the engine is fairly loud in the cab. Both the stock and aftermarket radio was hard to hear inside even when turned up loud.) This radio sounded atleast twice as good as the original radio. I've looked some and I guess you can still get them, but on Amazon they're listed at $70 and only one is available. There is a newer version (according to amazon, but it looks a lot different) http://www.amazon.com/Dual-XR4115-In-Dash-Mechless-Receiver/dp/B004U299S8/ref=dp_ob_title_ce/189-3239268-5158658 But it looks too fancy to me. I like having a cheap looking radio, it's a lot less likely to be stolen. Even if it is stolen, $40 and I've got another
