I wonder if it's going to be a parallel / same concept story or if it'll intertwine with the first season?
oh god i thought FLCL was just to be forever long forgotten by anyone who wasnt a die hard fan, and now theyre making new ones?
Im so curious though about it, i see Haruko but all new everything else but it seems like the story is gunna be the same. Is it just like a reboot or something?
Makes me think it's an older Naota but the chin breaks that theory
[del]And maybe some shots of Mamimi from the back too?[/del] no it's just the headphones girl
Holy shit Naota grew up
FLCL 2 stars a young girl named Hidomi who runs into a substitute teacher that looks like Haruko. She and her classmate, Ide, get caught up in the conflict with Medical Mechanica. FLCL 2 and 3 are said to feature different stories.
A trickle of information at the moment since the panel just happened
So is it confirmed that the original cast from the original is returning?
Finally something good on adult swim
As the biggest FLCL fan I am required to watch this

This is going to come off as overtly negative but...why? FLCL was so perfectly self contained. The original director and writer aren't even involved. I just don't get it.

i'm just going to treat this as a series of extended music videos for The Pillows

I feel the same way, FLCL is one of my favorite things, so I just feel naturally inclined to be extremely skeptical of this until it's out.
It just seems so unnatural. FLCL is not something that says "sequel potential" to me. It'd be like making a Schindler's List 2 or a Terminator 3
I don't know, I loved FLCL and seeing the trailers makes me pretty excited for 2 & 3, despite knowing that the story is technically over and doesn't really need sequels.
I think it's more about nostalgia, honestly, and maybe it's about different stories and themes set in the same universe, so that discussing about them would feel more comfortable and entertaining.

The original director, Kazuya Tsurumaki is actually returning for FLCL 2/3, as is original character designer, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto. At least according to Wikipedia.
Honestly despite some small changes, it seems pretty much set up for success. The problem is, they're following up FLCL, and that is no easy task.
People are going to be disappointed regardless, and I'm not expecting it to top the original series, but I'll definitely give it a watch. I'm expecting something similar to the final season of Samurai Jack. Pretty damn good in some places, maybe falling short in others.
Also, FLCL 2 and 3 are going to be 6 episodes each, so we can at least (hopefully) expect each of them to be tight, concise and contained stories, much like the original series.

This would be fine, if they manage to tell engaging human stories set in the FLCL universe, like how the original series was mostly a vehicle to explore Naota's changing emotions, insecurities, expectations, etc.
A few of the many things it SHOULDN'T be:
-A re-tread of the same story structure (which I'm afraid it will be, seeing another dude with a bandage on his forehead (hopefully that's nothing but a coincidental visual callback))
-Another "coming of age" of a frustrated pubescent boy
-Some epic fate-of-the-universe battle involving Haruko vs. Medical Mechanica vs. Atomsk
-An emotionless romp of action and/or fanservice
-Repeating shit from the original series, like the manga-style segments, "because the original had it so we have to"
-A vehicle for awful mary-sue characters like they added to the Evangelion rebuilds
I think if FLCL 2 and 3 are less than two of those things, they still have a chance of being ok.
Even if it isn't that great, it won't detract from the originals, and there will still be cool scenes with good music.
New Pillows is pretty much the only reason I'm looking forward to this.

Dollaridoos.
Dollaridoos.
Probably not. Pretty much everyone involved has enough money to do whatever they want in terms of a series. Odds are that the few people involved in the original on this sorta wanted to do something else with the universe.

I'd be down for at least one scene animated manga style. But I kinda doubt they'll be as adventurous animationwise like they were in the first season.
tbh not having watched flcl yet makes me a bad person
I still have my reservations, but I'll have to watch it because of the soundtrack at least.
[sp]In case you can't tell, I've been a fan of FLCL for quite a long time[/sp]

They put out an album not too long ago
I hope the animation style varies on each episode just like the original. I can't help but feel that this is unnecessary if they're going to do nothing novel or special.
