edit : better and not annoying video by IGN slightly annoying version :
Christ, that commentary is annoying.
xD
100% REAL!
Are there even any accounts of the Kolibri gun being used in WW1? Or is it just "This existed shortly before WW1, let's add it in for load-out options"?
The game weapon selection would be dreadfully dull if they ONLY put the weapons that saw wide-spread front line use.
I mean, most weapons would be bolt action rifles and pistols yeah but they have taken som really big liberties with this game - which is fine imo.
The game weapon selection would be dreadfully dull if they ONLY put the weapons that saw wide-spread front line use.
I dunno, I have a lot of fun with Verdun. If that's the reality I'm a bit hesitant, WW1 was dominated by the bolt-action. Am I going to see everyone running around with MP18's, BAR's and Fusil Automatique's in multiplayer? If so, I think it will distort the gameplay and ruin the spirit of the setting.

That wouldn't really work if EVERYONE had bolt-actions and had zero choice over what weapons they bring in.

It is really, REALLY not a realistic game. edit: it's like an action movie's mildly dieselpunk version of WWI
It's a game that's supposed to be fun and easy to enjoy. That wouldn't really work if EVERYONE had bolt-actions and had zero choice over what weapons they bring in.
Well I'm not saying everyone, but there must be some restriction to avoid all the Germans using a MP18, the French all using Fusil's, American's the BAR etc etc - while leaving bolt actions to sniper players solely.
Are there even any accounts of the Kolibri gun being used in WW1? It's about as effective as a Co2-powered BB gun.

And class restrictions never work in a game that's supposed to appeal to more than a very specific hardcore audience. This is a AAA game afterall, not some $30 indie game.
The game weapon selection would be dreadfully dull if they ONLY put the weapons that saw wide-spread front line use.
Same with world war 2 tbh, those games often have people running around with SMGs and shit like STG44s, hell nah, you're more often than not getting a semi-auto rifle.

They purposely went for a more showy, fantastical and unrealistic depiction of WWI

They saw wide spread front line use. Sten guns, grease guns, there was a lot more automatic weapons than just bolt actions and semi auto's. WW1 had it's fair share of non bolt action weapons and a large selection of weapons available at that time historically for the developers to have fun with.
It's so cute!

Hell the Imperial Japanese Army didn't even use anything other than bolt action rifles and LMGs for infantry (The Type 100 SMG was produced in very limited quantities, around 25.000 compared to about 7 million bolt action rifles). This is an interesting video on how the average German squad was equipped:
Snip-O
Considering muskets were used during WW1 in some areas, I wouldn't be surprised if they were.
i like how it's handled 👌
Sorry about the dude being annoying, couldn't find any other footages
thats definitely the farthest my pointer has hovered away from a subscription button
You can tell how funny he is because of how loud and often he yells xDD
I can understand why they added in more semi-auto, smgs, and machine guns to the game when they weren't all that common, but why the hell did they add the kolibri?
I can understand why they added in more semi-auto, smgs, and machine guns to the game when they weren't all that common, but why the hell did they add the kolibri?
Same reason they added those rare reloads in bf hardline, probably
I don't understand how I keep seeing this sentiment. Have you never played a Battlefield game before?
people are really forgetting that even back in the days of 1942, the riflemen loadout for the omaha beach map was a Springfield, while the marines sub faction on Guadalcanal had m1 garands. Like yeah the weapons were "used" but not as extensively as they are shown in game at that specific time. Battlefield has always been like that, its "realistic" in the sense of its background and some gameplay features, but its not historically accurate by no way shape or form, its literally just an action game.
