Jim Pasco, executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police, would not go into any detail about what is being cooked up for the Hollywood director, but he did tell THR: "We'll be opportunistic." "Tarantino has made a good living out of violence and surprise," says Pasco. "Our officers make a living trying to stop violence, but surprise is not out of the question." The FOP, based in Washington, D.C., consists of more than 330,000 full-time, sworn officers. According to Pasco, the surprise in question is already "in the works," and will be in addition to the standing boycott of Tarantino's films, including his upcoming movie The Hateful Eight. "Something is in the works, but the element of surprise is the most important element," says Pasco. "Something could happen anytime between now and [the premiere]. And a lot of it is going to be driven by Tarantino, who is nothing if not predictable. "The right time and place will come up and we'll try to hurt him in the only way that seems to matter to him, and that's economically," says Pasco. When asked if this was a threat, Pasco said no, at least not a physical threat. "Police officers protect people," he says. "They don't go out to hurt people." The director of the upcoming Hateful Eight has drawn the ire of unions from the largest police departments in the country, border patrol and other law enforcement organizations. Last month while marching in New York for a rally against police brutality, Tarantino called police "murderers." He has since gone public to clarify his remarks, saying that he is not anti-police, but against unarmed men and women being killed by them. At this point, most box-office analysts don't think Hateful Eight will be hurt at the box office by the dust-up.
[Source: THR] And they're surprised that people rally against them.
Somehow the logic escapes me
Behead those who insult [del]islam[/del]the police
I'm pretty sure threatening your peaceful opponents is the worse thing to do.
for all the sitcom worthy childishness in that quote, the most astonishing thing to me is the logic of "I don't agree with this guy, therefore he only cares about money." because going to a rally and possibly alienating half his viewership by expressing his views on a highly controversial subject is definitely the best way to bolster his wealth.
They're probably organizing a boycott, or something along those lines. That or they're going to shoot Samuel L. Jackson at the Hateful 8 premier and say he was armed.
"The right time and place will come up and we'll try to hurt him in the only way that seems to matter to him, and that's economically," says Pasco.
???
"Police officers protect people," he says. "They don't go out to hurt people."
?????
Cops will protest at his premier and there'll be nobody around to arrest them.
I'm really not getting from the article WHY that police department has this attitude towards Tarantino, both ideally and for PR the police should be the biggest proponent of condemning police violence and keeping a sharp eye on their own discipline. Like, is this about false accusations or insinuating someone here has ulterior motives, or what? I can't find an angle from which this could make sense. There's something about Tarantino having called policemen "murderers", but he's clarified and largely defused that statement, so it can't be that unless someone's really terrible at letting go of grudges. I'm confused. I'm not seeing who would benefit from this except general critics of that police department.
Pasco sounds like a middle schooler talking about his power fantasy
What the fuck is this, a police unioin or the god damned mafia? Because right now I can't tell the difference.
If you're going to take it out of context, at least remove the context...
Why would you accuse me of taking something out of context, and then point out that I made sure to include the whole context. Did I or didn't I? There's a reason I chose "??" over a witty political remark, you know.
"The right time and place will come up and we'll try to hurt him in the only way that seems to matter to him, and that's economically," says Pasco. "
What the fuck does that mean? Are they going to blockade the premier of his film? Because that's more than illegal and would get shut down immediately. These people are fucking idiots, they can do nothing against Tarantino and the only reason they're singling him out is because of his status.
This has to spark some ideas for his next movie. A tarantino movie about some guy going around killing police officers that uses excessive force would be amazing
Regardless of whatever politics are involved Tarantino is a dick.
Regardless of whatever politics are involved Tarantino is a dick.
Hes a dick, awkward as fuck, and weird. But holy fuck does he make some of my favorite movies.
As much as he is an asshole, he makes some good movies tho. the parts w/ the foot fetish inspirations are always the worst though because you know he was popping mad boners when filming/editing that shit.
It adds character.

the reason why this is dangerous for tarantino is that pretty much any kind of filming in a populated area necessitates the use of off duty officers. film companies contract off duty officers to protect the area so no one gets hurt. they're also required to by most cities to contract officers in order to get a permit to film. basically if unionized officers refuse to help production companies, filming in NYC, any other city, etc, will be immediately shut down for him. no chance to film anywhere that's not the middle of fucking nowhere. tarantino realizes this and is the main reason why he's actually backpedaling a little bit. he's notorious for inflammatory statements and this is basically the only time he's even remotely trying to make nice on it.
Calls for greater police accountability, more training, policy reviews, investigations into suspicious incidents, and more restraint of force are not inherently opposed to the entire concept of police in general. This dismissive and bullheaded viewpoint, that anybody who criticizes the actions or policies of a police officer or department is anti-cop, is one of my biggest peeves. Wanting to see a more respectable and professional police force does not mean you hate cops.
I think any police union who tries this shit should be stripped of any government funding (please correct me if they are funded at all.) This is usually a sign of corruption, I bet you look into these officers files you'll find something.
Why is Quentin a dick? Is it because of the interview with that ITV dude? I honestly don't look into him all that much but I'm curious.
Just go film in Europe if the cops refuse to help out. Then make it a movie about asshole cops and make the bad guys look somewhat similar to the officers speaking on this. That would be hilarious and I would easily give money to view that. edit- Though I doubt Tarantino would be as petty as me to do that but I can dream.

I love the dramatic pause between "hurt him" ... and "economically". :v: [editline]8th November 2015[/editline]
Why is Quentin a dick? He's actually pretty laid back and down to Earth in my opinion.

And people at the protest had very "murderous" remarks towards the police in general. It's entirely possible it was just bad timing, but it cut deep.
lmao a couple butthurt higher ups are going to make 1/3 of a million cops not see a movie because Tortilini was at a single protest that's like saying I'm captain of a group of 500,000 individuals, all of which who were not going to see Hateful 8 anyway, and then I'm going to say it's intentionally avoiding and then call it boycotting. [editline]9th November 2015[/editline] Tarintino movies cause violence you heard it here first everyone, police brutality confirmed Tartolioni's fault
Quentin Tarantino wishes he was black
The FOP, based in Washington, D.C., consists of more than 330,000 full-time, sworn officers.
Thats just about 50% of all full-time sworn law enforcement, fyi. The union can say whatever it wants, but most officers dont really give a hoot because QT makes movies. I plan on watching his stuff. As do my coworkers. That's not exactly constructive criticism, especially when tensions are this bad.
