A transgender teen made history at Marina High School in Huntington Beach Friday night when she was named homecoming queen.
At first Campbell said running for homecoming queen was all about her.
“And then I realized it wasn’t for me anymore and I was doing this for so many people all around the county and the state and possibly the world and I am so proud to win this not just for me, but everyone out there,” Campbell said.
This win is a small but meaningful step towards greater acceptance and I just love it.
Good for her, but is this really news worthy?
Good for her, but is this really news worthy?
How is it not?
That is really comforting to hear.
Glad to see humanity is progressing.

Of course it is, it shows that transgender people are getting more fairly treated like they deserve. She's the first transgirl in the US to be crowned homecoming queen. It's less that she got homecoming queen per se and more the fact that a transgirl in high school is the person who won and for the first time in US history.
its news because most trans kids struggle to even be accepted in their own communities
when things like this wont even be considered newsworthy, it'll be a good thing for us
Good to know its becoming easier to assume the gender you identify with.
Just wish i didnt have to hear about this moronic beauty contest shit.
I just hope she got it based on her merits, and not because the school felt like making a political statement.
Yay cynicism!

Yeah I wish we didn't have to read threads if one doesn't want to.
I'll be the asshole in this thread to get hated on.
I support Gay / Lesbian and everything with them. Marriage and the such. Not my place to say how they should live.
But Transgender in my opinion takes it way too far to where I think it's just completely weird. It's hard to "support" something that's completely against everything I think is even remotely normal. Like I said before, I shouldn't tell people how to live and if that's what his/her choice is then fine. But I think it's completely ridiculous and in my opinion disgusting.
An argument may be "Just because you aren't like them, doesn't mean you should force your belief on others". You could say the same thing for a lot of extreme topics. I disagree with transgenderism completely. It's just overboard and obnoxious in my opinion. I'm not forcing my opinion on them at all, I'm just disagreeing completely with their idea of what is normal and think it's messed up.
Here comes the hate train.
How exactly do you "disagree" with someone being who they are?
I'm just disagreeing completely with their idea of what is normal and think it's messed up.
Why? Your only argument is "This isn't what I consider normal and is therefore bad".
How is it "overboard" or "obnoxious" in anyway?
How exactly do you "disagree" with someone being who they are?
I just think it's obnoxious and out of line. It's like disagreeing with someone who is a satanist or something crazy. They have the right to do that, but you can disagree with it and think it's nuts.

And nicely done comparing transpersons to satanists. You know literally nothing about transgenderism.

How is it out of line? You have yet to explain that.
No, its not at all like that because its not a belief system or anything like that. And nicely done comparing transpersons to satanists. You know literally nothing about transgenderism.
It's a comparison to an extreme belief or lifestyle. That's why I said satanists. Something comparable so someone could understand where I'm coming from. I'm not comparing the two, I'm comparing the extremes.
So good job understanding the analogy.
And just to make a point before you try any of the following: Opinions are not immune to being wrong, you aren't owed respect for your beliefs, and you are in fact a bigot.

You can disagree with beliefs and think they're disgusting without forcing them to believe something else.
It's called a disagreement with a belief. I'm sure you disagree with others beliefs, do you not? I didn't force my opinion on him.

I can kinda sorta see the 'out of line' part, though I disagree with you there. But how is it obnoxious?
It's a comparison to an extreme belief or lifestyle. That's why I said satanists. Something comparable so someone could understand where I'm coming from. I'm not comparing the two, I'm comparing the extremes.

why do you consider other sexualities fine but not transgenderism? you can't pick and choose this shit

no one cares what you think is normal

being gay isn't a choice and neither is being transgender. i kind of doubt that you could be as accepting of other sexualities as you say you are when you're seriously making the exact same arguments that homophobes make without even realizing it

We don't want or care for your opinion on this, threads like these don't need asshats like you to come in and post your bigotry; Leave.
I already know the majority of Facepunch is for certain topics, which is why I hesitate to play devils advocate.
And the reason I am fine with gay/lesbian but not transgenderism is because it doesn't seem even remotely psychologically sane. Even in nature there is gay / lesbian. I can understand why someone would be gay and it's not their choice.
But to say you're a completely different gender, and then like the same gender as you actually are, makes absolutely no sense and I think it's ludicrous.
Again, I don't force my belief on them and tell them not to believe or feel what they feel. I just think it's crazy.

Someone can disagree with you. Don't shed a tear over it.
Transgenderism is not a belief, these people are mentally the opposite sex that they are physically.
Female brain, male body. Female body, male brain.

Actual pic, because the one in the OP sucks.
