ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkish police donned white coats and stethoscopes to disguise themselves as doctors, then knocked on people's doors to see how easily they would fall for a confidence scam.
The undercover police officers told residents of the southeastern city of Gaziantep they were screening for high blood pressure and handed out pills, according to Turkish media.
They were alarmed when residents at 86 out of 100 households visited on Tuesday swallowed the pills immediately.
Police later returned to warn residents to be more cautious.
The police pills were harmless placebos. But a local gang had been using the same technique to give people heavy sedatives and then burgle them.
Turkish police in other provinces have also used novel methods to test citizens' gullibility.
Officers in Adana in southern Turkey last week called at houses, announcing through the intercom: "I am a burglar, please open the door."
Police said they were stunned at the number of people who opened the door, the Radikal daily newspaper reported.
Thought it was gonna be fucked up from the title, but that's pretty clever.

Ok there's probably some explanation here but on the surface, man those are stupid people.
This is a brilliant idea.
Problem is, if this happened in the US, then people would sue the police out the wazoo.

How many burglars politely ask if you can let them in so they can rob you?

Thats actually a really smart way to burgle someone. (Unless the person their robbing owns almost nothing and they used up the money on sedatives.)
well that's some of the most stupidest things i've ever heard
i've learned that you never take pills unless your mate garauntees you it'll be fucking brilliant and you don't open the door for anyone ever
and always block the mail slot, you can't pay your bills if you never see them

compared to the level of cunning their population exhibits, it's worthy of a nobel award

It's probably the organs their going for, so they probably make a huge profit anyway.

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
HA
It's like the Milgram Experiment all over again.
I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
Not really, if I heard that over my door intercom I'd assume it's a friend acting stupid.

That's pretty clever. Also clever on the parts of the burglars, I mean, it blows that people are getting robbed, but it's still better than knocking on the door, killing the homeowner, then stealing his stuff.

And if it happened in Texas, the 'doctor' would be let in, and then blown away.

That clip was far too short, so I don't want you to post in this thread anymore.

Only if he/she were an abortion doctor.
I am so doing this.
Now I just need a list of the local hot chicks and some sleeping pills.
Sad how only 14 people didn't take the pills.
If I saw a doctor at my door I'd assume plague and lock down everything.
The burglar thing reminds me of the person who did an experiment on the Internet, they put up an advert on something like adsense with the words "Click here to install a virus on your computer" loads of people apparently installed the (harmless) "virus".
Let's go there get rob them since it's so easy! /sarcasm
Well, Im off to turkey.
If they fall for this, imagine what else they would fall for!
The title made me think the cops got busted because they were impersonating a doctor.

This is a blog post I found about the virus thing I mentioned.

Many of those could be accidents. Thats the only reason I ever click ads.

This isn't far fetched. If some one said they were a burglar, I certainly wouldn't believe them. I'd open up the door and laugh.
This is ridiculous. haha. I can't imagine getting robbed by someone dressed as a doctor.
